Good things come in small packages

Investment in novel SDA products is soaring across the UK, but what is our fascination with these worktop wonders? And how is the sector changing? Jack Cheeseman investigates.
I f the amount of lifestyle cooking
programmes on TV is anything to go by, there is no doubt that the nation is definitely rediscovering its love of cooking. This is also reflected in the growing number of kitchen product lines in retailers
across the country and various new
inventions coming from manufacturers. Within the small domestic appliances category,
there are some very exciting developments. Not only are there some very useful counter-top appliances on the market now, helping even the most inexperienced cooks produce high quality, fresh snacks and meals, but consumers also have an increasing choice of colour and design options to suit a huge variety of tastes. Others are still on the lookout for the all-in-one solutions that simply lend a helping hand in the kitchen when it is needed most.
KitchenAid’s cream two-slot toaster and its iconic stand mixer in red
Industry stalwart, KitchenAid, is celebrating its centenary this year – 100 years since its first iconic stand mixer was launched. It was described as “the best kitchen aid I’ve ever had” by an executive’s wife at the time, and so the brand was born. The iconic shape of the
mixer was created in 1937, and in 1949 KitchenAid branched out into major domestic appliances with the launch of its first dishwasher. Today’s appliances, with their professional
performance, artisan quality and iconic design, empower makers to explore their culinary creativity and make special memories in the kitchen. “KitchenAid strives to continue to make the kitchen a creative space by building on its legacy of creating professional appliances for passionate makers,” comments Mark Ridealgh, Market Leader UK & Ireland, KitchenAid SDA (pictured above). “We are positioned at the luxury end of the market, where consumers favour products that demonstrate their success. The luxury consumer
seeks appliances that feature an unprecedented level of functionality, which will provide them with a divine and unmatched user-experience. KitchenAid brings the professional kitchen into the home, with a fusion of bold beauty and distinctive functionality that is perfect for those who are serious about food.” KitchenAid stays on top of the ever-growing
trend of healthy eating with a wide range of optional accessories for the Artisan Stand Mixer. A spiraliser, vegetable sheet cutter and citrus juicer are just some of the attachment accessories; simply attach them to the mixer through the single attachment hub and you are ready to prepare while cutting your workload. Ultimately, however, appliances from the brand
feature a timeless design, which ascends trends. The iconic KitchenAid model K stand mixer was one of the first appliances to be exhibited in modern art museums. Since the introduction of its legendary stand mixer, KitchenAid has built on the legacy of this icon and developed other appliances that feature the very best refined design.
