a growing family-run business established in 1972, now run by Cliff Walton’s sons Joe and Chris. In 2023, they took the leap and started using the NCompass system to further support the growth of their business.
“For 40 years my stock management system was in my head! I knew how much stock cost, the retail prices and how profit was made but it was only myself that knew this,” says Joe Walton. “With the installation of the system, we now have complete control and visibility of every item that comes through the door. Now all my staff can find out what stock we have, what colours are available, and the cost – it’s so much more professional.” As well as searching by model number,
barcodes can be used to scan out smaller items at the till, allowing for easy tracking of stock levels. Triggers can prompt you to order more stock when you start to run low, meaning you never risk selling out of customer favourites. The system even links to many major suppliers so retailers can see the supplier stock availability
For larger items, you have the ability to give each one its own unique barcoded label, printed as you book the stock into the system. Scan that barcode onto the NCompass system and you are given a full history for that item, showing when you first ordered it, when it was delivered to you, the exact price you paid for it and any other key information you may need to know. It’s not just team efficiency that can be boosted with a digital stock management system – customer service can also be massively improved, as Mr Walton explains: “I was a dinosaur before we had this; we had a job book with everything written down, but now we have it all at the touch of a button! “A lady came in recently saying she’d mislaid the invoice for a washer she’d just bought, so I asked her name and address and within one minute I had a copy of the invoice printed off for her. This would have taken us ages to find the old way! We are still learning but I will never regret going with NCompass for our EPOS system.” Mr Walton and his team have also benefitted
