PAINTING AND DECORATING FEATURE 2027 planning

Jason Burns of Shurtape looks at trends for 2027 and how retailers and manufacturers can plan together

Painting and decorating is very cyclical. New trends emerge, old styles come back into fashion and retailers seek to stay on top of predicted patterns in order to plan their stock accordingly.

It’s at this time of year when we start to look ahead to what’s coming up: 2026 has gone by in a sunny flash and as Autumn arrives we automatically look to the plans for next year. Predicted interiors and decorating

trends always have an impact on the way our products are used, and the trends drive our conversations and arrangements with our stockists so we keep on top of what the experts and the consumer media are saying, as well as the consumers engaging on social channels.

2027 is going to be all about optimism, apparently, with sunshine yellow and earthy greens dominating colour palettes, according to experts. Other popular colours are expected to be deep reds and browns and luminous blues. Bold shades and confident interiors are the order of the day.

Of course, it’s not just the colours for us: it’s the painting methods that decorators use. FrogTape® has long been known as one of the world’s leading decorators’ tapes, with its unique PaintBlock® technology, which prevents paint bleed across a range of surfaces.

Thanks to the confidence and clean lines it provides, amateur painters and professional decorators alike know it will help them deliver the best possible results, whether

it’s with FrogTape’s Pro Grade Blue Painters Tape, new FrogTape® Advanced or one of the original Delicate or Multi Surface Painters’ Tapes.

And that confidence helps painters be more creative, whether it’s deciding to do a wall of stripes, or a large impactful border. In 2027, we are apparently going to see ‘disruptive pops’:

high

energy accents that are created using contrasting, bright colours in small

doses, for example on cabinets, trims or doors.

Using colour on trims has certainly gained popularity in recent times and it can add real personality to a room or hallway. For us, this means ensuring that customers provide the right products to help their customers create that look. FrogTape delivers precision when painting and it protects the surface beneath, saving time as well as delivering the best possible results

when it comes to delicate, specific tasks like this. We always work closely with retailers, to help them inspire their customers with images, examples and advice as well as cross-selling opportunities. Painting trims, cabinets and other edged surfaces means small brushes, the right paint and the right tape. By selling these together it can reassure the end user that they are getting the right tools for the task - encouraging them to make braver, more creative decorating decisions. Home improvement continues to be a massive market, with new trends providing new sales opportunities. From being an infrequent ‘need to do’ task a few decades ago, painting and decorating has grown into a massive global industry, fuelled by constantly evolving trends that are shared on fast-consumed social channels – this is illustrated by the fact that #Homedecor has over 14.6 billion views on Tik Tok, #Painting has 30 billion. The appetite is huge. This are great news for retailers, manufacturers of paint and of course those of us providing painting accessories, as we can all work together to advise, support and deliver creative approaches: cross- marketing products, complementary offers, expert advice on our own marketing channels.

All this combines and creates significant new opportunities to engage consumers, collaborate with each other and continue to drive sales.
