PALACE CHEMICALS BU A BRITISH MANUFACTU
In the past year Palace Chemicals, the family- run market leader, has further strengthened its position as a proud standard-bearer for British manufacturing. Due to being able to increase its product ranges, the company can now offer the broadest, highest quality and most innovative range of preparation, levelling compounds and tiling adhesives, as well as decorating products, to its growing portfolio of DIY multiple and independent customers. Over the last two years, the company has invested significantly in its manufacturing capacity, its warehousing and the sustainability of its operations. This investment has been implemented, while remaining true to the company’s core values. Palace believes that personal relationships form the foundation of its success within the industry, with consistent feedback highlighting the value customers place on team continuity. This is a people-focused approach which is reflected in the long tenure of many Palace employees, with a significant number having been with the business for much of its history and many proudly describing themselves as part of the ‘Palace family’. For customers, this means a commitment
to reliable delivery and high-quality service, backing up the product range. For the DIY retailer the company offers the most extensive range of tiling adhesives, preparation products and decorating products available, all manufactured (in Britain) to the highest possible standards. This philosophy also lies behind an important initiative from the company this year. Palace has launched its Skills Hub, based at its Liverpool head office. This is a practical training centre where retailers, tilers, landscapers and other industry professionals can develop their understanding of modern installation methods. It is an initiative designed to support the industry and help drive up installation standards in the sector. Its core principle is that the training provided is practical in the first instance and supported by theory where necessary. To deliver the best and most relevant courses, Palace is collaborating with tool manufacturers and other firms within the trade to offer courses that go beyond core tiling areas. This enables the company to deliver courses on aspects such as waterproofing, expansion joints and decoupling mats, with the aim to bring in specialists where necessary to help deliver the courses. Palace has also expanded its team this year, including taking on a Sales Director for DIY & Export, Gareth Maskell, who has joined the company with a brief to develop the company’s DIY business. He joins Palace with 20 years’ experience in the DIY industry, much of it working in senior domestic and international roles in the DIY and building chemicals area handling both multiple and independent retailers.
“I am completely focused on growth of existing and new business, new customers and new products. It was immediately clear to me that the company’s drive, ambition and

capabilities in this market are unparalleled. Having spent many years working for a family business previously, the family ethos at Palace felt like coming home.” There is certainly plenty of interest within the
product range itself for the DIY retailer, when it comes to either tiling or decorative products. The decorative range includes solvents, adhesives, sealants, fillers and more, while the tiling range includes ready-mixed adhesives and cement- based C1, C2, S1 and S2 adhesives, as well as grouts, preparation and aftercare products. Enhanced sustainability has been a feature of recent new product launches, which include
the PALACE EXTRA-LITE range. This is an ultra-lightweight, thin and thick-bed, flexible high yield adhesive, containing more than 40% recycled material, where a 10kg bag covers the same area as a traditional 20kg bag, meaning users require smaller volumes on each job. It features a lightweight, highly polymer-fortified S1 formulation, providing the flexibility required for fixing large format tiles and panels or where slight movement or vibration is likely. This means faster, easier installation with a reduced carbon impact across the supply chain. The theme of improved sustainability is also carried through to another recent launch with
