DID YOU SEE AT GLEE? Fake it
The British public’s love affair with artificial flowers and greenery seems to be growing (no pun intended). As the quality of products improves, with more UV resistance, an even greater variety of realistic-looking flora and fauna is on offer to seekers of a low- maintenance look and instant results or even for retailers wanting to bring a little of the outside in with
effortless displays. From potted succulents and blooms to hanging baskets, foliage screens and full-size blossom trees, there was something for everyone on show at Glee this year. “Artificial is still big,” said Gardman’s Mark Portman. “It’s proving really popular and is all about convenience and making it easier. and have a good lifespan, there is more choice.” This year Gardman expanded its artificial offer with double the number of SKUs, including maintenance-free trees, weighted hanging baskets and floral trellis in a range of sizes. Other exhibitors included Sincere Floral with a stunning display of artificial blooms and trees, and Quick Grass with its new-generation ‘soft touch’ artificial grass.
The natural look There seems to be a leaning toward more natural products in the sector, from chemical-free garden items, to the use of natural and eco-friendly materials, including pet toys made from natural fibres. Westland Horticulture launched its Resolva Zero and has had huge success with its Safelawn product that is created to be safe for use around children and pets.
