AND FINALLY NBG holds quiz of the year
Mastermind it most definitely wasn’t. Eggheads, maybe, though probably The Weakest Link is more apt. Earier this month, independent builders merchant buying group NBG LLP held a virtual pub-quiz, via Zoom, to raise money for the industry charity The Rainy Day Trust. A networking event as much as a test of merchant and suppliers’ knowledge - or lack of – of popular culture and general current affairs, the quiz, thanks to sponsorship of the goodie-boxes and raffle prizes, raised £5,000 for the charity, which helps those in the home improvement & builders merchant sector who need financial support and advice. The winner, of course, was the Rainy Day Trust, whose CEO Bryan Clover thanked participants. “It was fabulous to see so many
old friends and new faces after months of isolation,” he said. “The C19 crisis has hit RDT extremely hard with our income down nearly 50%, but so many people have been affected by the virus and need our help more than ever. We have recognised

that businesses will be working hard to restore their balance sheets and the added pressure of coping with the mental health issues in particular, will be a burden that they don’t need. We are here to help your business get back to normal. Please call us so that we can work together for the benefit of the whole industry.” The highest score went to Steve Kean from Quantum Profile Systems, followed by Bethan and Jo from Builders Supplies West Coast, and Grant & Stone’s Mark Smith. All dazzled with their superior knowledge of biscuits, the 1980s, James Bond films and their ability to distinguish between the diplomatic ramblings of Donald Trump and Boris Johnson. BMJ would like to point out that mid-table is a perfectly acceptable place to finish.
RGB commits to Air Ambulance charities
Independent Devon-based builders merchant RGB Building Supplies is raising vital funds for the two air ambulance charities.
The builder’s merchant has pledged to donate 25p to the charities from the sale of every promotional bulk bag, of aggregates, such as sand, crushed stone and gravel.
The Horsham branch of Covers Timber & Builders Merchants is cotinuing to sponsor a Horsham FC youth team for the 2020/2021 season. The team has been supported by Covers for the last seven years as they have progressed through the age groups. This season the team will move up from the U16s to the U17s and will continue to display the builders’ merchant’s logo on its kit. Annie Raby, who is Horsham FC’s Youth Secretary, said: “Horsham FC youth would like to thank Covers for its continued support of Horsham FC U17s for the new season. The team will be playing in the Mid Sussex Youth Football League and are proud to being wearing the amber and green shirts with Covers as their main sponsor.” John Hamilton, depot manager of Covers Horsham, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our support of Horsham FC’s U17s youth team. Over the years it has been a privilege to see the whole team develop and flourish. Following a difficult 2019/2020 season, and a freeze on competitive sport, we are looking forward to seeing the team play again.”

Kevin Fenlon, CEO of RGB Building Supplies, says: “We’ve created specialist bulk bags which carry each charity’s logo, and we’d like to encourage trade and retail customers who are perhaps taking on a landscaping project in their garden, to visit us for aggregates and help us raise as much money as possible for the charity.”
Stephanie Bray, corporate fundraising officer at Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, said: “This is a great way for a business to support its community and help raise crucial funds to keep their local air ambulance flying. Thank you to RGB Building Supplies, and we hope lots of their customers support this fundraiser.” Tracy Owen, fundraising manager at Devon Air Ambulance, said: “We are delighted that RGB has chosen once again to support us and would like to thank them for their on-going support.”
