PLUMBING & HEATING

BAXI LAUNCHES THE NEW 800 HEAT

Completing its reliable, high- performance 800 range, Baxi has launched the 800 Heat. The new addition gives merchant teams another high-quality boiler solution to offer installers, in order to suit every customer, house type and budget. With 16, 25 and 30kW outputs, the ultra-lightweight 800 Heat completes Baxi’s line-up of easy- to-install and efficient system and combi boilers. Fully compatible with market-leading Megaflo cylinders, the Baxi 800 Heat is the ideal boiler

solution to work with a water cylinder for exceptional heating and hot water delivery.

Designed with ease of installation in mind, the Baxi 800 Heat is suited for either fully pumped open vent or sealed systems, and can be securely wall mounted inside a 290mm deep cupboard. The flue, of up to 12 meters, can also be positioned centrally or to the rear of the boiler for added flexibility.

As an additional selling-point, the Baxi 800 Heat does not require a pump overrun and is also very light at just 17.4 – 19.5 kg. For additional peace of mind, an Adey Micro2 filter is also included for increased protection against magnetite and other debris.

Like the others in the range, the Baxi 800 Heat has a great 10-year parts and labour warranty, provided the boiler is registered on the Baxi Works Loyalty Scheme and receives annual services.

David Cook, Residential Sales Director UK and Ireland at Baxi Heating, said: “Due to popular demand, we are completing our flagship 800 range with the Baxi 800 Heat to give merchants and their customers even more choice when it comes to selecting the best heating system. With plenty of fantastic features and benefits, the Baxi 800 Heat is an ideal choice, complete with the 10-year parts and labour warranty and an industry leading Adey filter in the box, it is all designed to make it simple for installers and to give homeowners peace of mind that their boiler will last.”

GREEN HOMES GRANT

LG has greeted the latest news from Government regarding the Green Homes Grant positively with clarification received that the Grant can be used alongside the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (DRHI) as an upfront payment to provide an immediate offset for the capital cost of the heat pump,

rather than having to wait for quarterly payments to cover this cost. In this scenario, the homeowner will first need to apply for a Green Homes Grant and then subsequently can also apply for DRHI. The amount of their Grant is then taken off the value of their projected DRHI payments. However, this cannot work the other way around. It will not be possible for claimants to apply for DRHI or currently be in receipt of DRHI for a specific installation that constitutes a measure under the Green Homes Grant, and then subsequently apply and receive a Grant. As DRHI applies to a specific installation, identifiable via an MCS certificate, a homeowner could choose to have a further renewable heat measure using the Green Homes Grant. For example, they could already have a Heat Pump attracting DRHI but then under the Green Homes Grant opt for the addition of Solar Thermal. The Solar Thermal installation would attract a separate MCS certificate.

Ian Rippin, CEO of MCS said, “We do welcome this clarification from Government on pairing the incentives as I do believe it will stimulate demand from those who need help to find the upfront cost of an renewable heat installation, but they can then still benefit from DRHI over the payback period. If you like, this is an upfront payment being made out of their DRHI allowance.”

LG’s heating manager Andy Hooper says this announcement will help bring clarity to what has been a slightly confusing picture: “Whilst the latest interpretation isn’t how we might have hoped it would be interpreted, it is a far better outcome than we feared, so we are pleased to see that the Grant can be used in conjunction with the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive although the grant will be claimed back from the amount of DRHI that a householder can claim. At least claiming the Grant will not now negate the ability to claim DRHI at all. This gives us a better chance to step up the sales of domestic air to water heat pumps across the UK in conjunction with other renewable heating or cooling elements of a system installed.”

RADIATOR BODY CAMPAIGNS FOR QUALITY The Manufacturers Association of Radiators and Convectors, MARC, have launched a campaign to raise

awareness with consumers of the need to have quality, *CE marked radiators in UK homes. The key message is that bogus radiator products leave homeowners cold and out of pocket. Early Autumn is usually the time when the central heating goes back on. It’s also around this time that heating engineers receive reports of radiators not working as efficiently as their customers would like them to be. Launched in the Summer the #YouAreWhatYouHeat campaign includes a ‘Consumer Guide to buying the right radiator for your home’, which details the key information homeowners need to know when buying radiators. The campaign emphasises the problems with under-sized or wrongly specified radiators which may not adequately heat the space they were purchased to, causing the boiler to run at higher temperatures than would have been necessary, burning more fuel, increasing heating costs and affecting the life cycle of the boiler or heat source.

All members of MARC must provide proof of product performance (CE marking), together with test certificates as part of its membership criteria. All documentation provided is reviewed.

Merchants and Installers are huge influencers when it comes to home heating. They have an in-depth knowledge of products and bene-fits. Consumers trust them to aid their buying decisions, so it is important for industry to communicate with the entire supply chain.
