WORKWEAR

off-the-shelf Emma product will fit 95% of people’s feet. Which is very important if you are in a large organisation with 10000 employees as it means more of your employees will be able to find footwear that fits them properly which is important from a comfort and an orthopaedic point of view.” Dumigan says that the circularity of the Emma offer goes as far as complete recycling. In Holland and Belgium Emma have a truly circular system where they collect through a third party all the shoes that are worn out and bring them back and re-purpose them. They actually collect them from the retail outlets. They have

large bins at the stores and on a regular basis they go and collect what is in them, then everything is fully recycled. We haven’t got to that stage in the UK yet but it is something we are looking into further down the track. It’s like wearing seatbelts really, now we wouldn’t dream of getting into a car without wearing one, but there was a time when we needed a government campaign to get us to wear them. Eventually, I think there will come a point where recycling is as natural to us all as wearing a seatbelt is.”

The Emma brand is launching in the UK from the beginning of this month and Dumigan says he’s

pretty excited about the potential for the brand through the merchant channel. “We acquired another footwear company about four years ago which sells the Solid Gear and ToeGuard brands. Solid Gear has a completely different brand position; it is all about innovation and really making safety shoes more like hi- tech trainers. There’s a huge amount of research and development that goes into making the product lightweight and comfortable to wear, but also fully supportive of the foot and complying with the safety requirements, whilst still appealing to modern wearers who have an eye for a product’s style.

“When you put the Solid Gear MAKING A CHANGE FOR
