BATHROOMS AND SHOWERS
“The commercial and industrial sectors are also performing well, as capital projects are still going ahead. Many of these are “change of use” and refurbishments which frequently require pumps/lifting stations in order to add new facilities such as toilet blocks, canteen facilities, as well as welfare facilities for site staff. “The staycation trend has also proved to be an opportunity for Saniflo with glamping, camping and caravanning sites expanding to accommodate more visitors. Additional drainage facilities regularly require a pumped solution. “Our Kinedo shower range continues to grow through multiple sectors, and we have plans for additional products to be launched in the coming year.”
Saniflo has brought out some new innovations in bathroom technology and how it is incorporating technology from other industries into its products.
She says: “This year Saniflo has become the first industrial pump manufacturer to incorporate brushless technology into the motors of some of its products. This advanced technology is already widely used in a variety of products including power tools, boiler pumps and appliances such as lawnmowers - benefits include improved motor lifespan, product efficiency and reliability. “The popular Sanicubic 2 Pro Smart is a pumping station designed to lift grey and black waste water from individual properties, small businesses and light commercial premises. The new brushless version extends the range to three
models – the classic, the Pro Smart and the Pro Smart brushless.”
The current state of building, lack of it, has been a struggle for Saniflo and so has the housing market.
In the financial year data for the year ending in March 2023, 210,320 houses were completed in the UK. Data shows that to meet current and future housing need we need to significantly increase the supply of new homes. Most experts believe that we need to build 250,000 new homes per year, whilst over the last decade we have averaged just 130,500 per year. The house building industry contributes £19.2 billion a year to the UK economy, supports 600,000 and has a predominately domestic supply chain. So, it benefits everyone in the UK if we build more houses. Especially as all these houses will need bathrooms.
Mills says that new build has slowed down as a result of rising interest rates and unaffordability for younger people, although change-of-use projects and renovations are still buoyant as existing buildings are re-purposed, and house owners continue to improve not move. Sales highlight a trend towards walk-in shower spaces with larger shower trays; many of these for bath replacement projects.
“Modular building will continue to be a growth sector,” she adds. “When compared to traditional build, up to 67% less energy is required to build a modular unit which aligns to climate ambitions and off-site construction

also reduces site deliveries considerably, further improving the carbon footprint of the build. Bathroom pods feature in modular projects offering standardisation and economies of scale.
“The use of colours and patterns are becoming ever more popular as consumers personalise their spaces.”
She explains that the popular colours of bathroom products remain white, chrome and black. “These are still the core colours in the bathroom industry for showering products. Other popular textures and materials include wood and natural-style surfaces, for example, textured shower trays that resemble natural materials and stone such as limestone, slate and sand.
“There is a trend towards using colour in the bathroom with more being seen in furniture but also colour and patterned showerwall panels and tiles becoming bolder and we anticipate this to continue as consumers get braver with their choices.”
Mills adds that Saniflo products have conservation in mind when designing products. She says: “Saniflo macerators, pumps and lifting stations are a conduit to discharge water and work with other manufacturers sanitaryware to help discharge waste when gravity drainage is an option, ensuring the discharge of water based on current legislative requirements of items. We will continue to keep conservation in mind when designing products.” BMJ
Hansgrohe’s new iBox universal 2
Shower supplier hansgrohe has revealed the next generation of pioneering concealed technology - its iBox universal 2, based on the proven iBox Universal, and with extra install features. Simplified installation steps and new technical refinements mean the new iBox universal 2 is more convenient and faster to install, with added safety improvements. Designed with flexibility in mind, the iBox universal
2 gives extension rosette enables convenient installation even in the case of wall constructions being too flat. Thanks to pre-assembly, the function block forms a unit with the adapter. This eliminates the need to shorten the screws and the adapter must no longer be measured, cut and calibrated. Moreover, the use of tools is minimized. The iBox universal 2 is also equipped with a new sliding sleeve for deep installation, meaning the product can be easily installed without cutting, regardless of the depth in which the flush-mounted body is installed. A pre-mounted sealing sleeve is also tightly connected to the sliding sleeve, meaning the iBox universal 2 is automatically fitted with essential watertight installation. Finally, thanks to an all-new mounting ring, the new unit can easily be installed in a concealed fashion within, or alternatively in front of the wall.
