BMF receives national recognition for leadership, professional development and social value initiatives

The Builders Merchants

Federation (BMF) has been widely recognised across the UK awards landscape this year, earning multiple nominations and wins that highlight the organisation’s

leadership in skills development, sector awareness and member engagement.

Shining a spotlight on the importance of raising sector awareness, our Building Materials Careers programme, developed alongside our partner agency CMDi, has been shortlisted for ‘Best Social Value Campaign’ at the Construction Marketing Awards (CMA).

The initiative promotes the wide range of career opportunities within the building

materials sector and seeks to tackle the ongoing skills shortage through targeted engagement and outreach.

BMF Chief

Executive, John Newcomb, said

the programme was “playing a crucial role in raising awareness of our hidden sector” and helping members attract and retain future talent. CMDi Managing Director, Dianne Lucas, described the shortlisting as recognition of a “transformative programme driving social value” across the built environment.

In further recognition of the BMF’s leadership in futureproofing our sector against the ongoing skills shortage, we have also been named Organisation Winner of the 2025 Stunell Award, by the

National Home Improvement Council (NHIC).

In its citation, the NHIC praised the BMF for “transforming the perception and delivery of apprenticeships within the home improvement supply chain.” Through the BMF Apprenticeship Pledge, which has attracted over 15,000 commitments and placed more than 1,200 apprentices, the federation has demonstrated measurable, scalable impact. Adding to this exceptional year of recognition, the BMF has been shortlisted in three categories at the 2025 Association Excellence Awards: Best Membership Engagement, Best Awareness Campaign or Advancement of a Cause, and UK Association of the Year.

These nominations follow our earlier success at the Memcom Awards, where the BMF was also shortlisted across three categories
