BMF opens second Regional Centre
of Excellence at Page Group The BMF has launched a second Regional Centre of Excellence at Page Group, this time in Birmingham. The growing network of BMF Regional Centres of Excellence is making training courses and regional meetings more accessible to BMF members around the UK and Ireland. The latest centre, based in Page Group’s impressive office at Brindleyplace in Birmingham, will serve BMF members in the West Midlands region. The BMF are also proud to name the Page London office as another BMF Regional Centre of Excellence.
John Newcomb, BMF Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to open our second Regional Centre of Excellence at Page Group and our 28th in total.
Localisation is an important strategy for the BMF and this is an excellent central facility where members can meet and attend BMF training courses, regional meetings and other regional events.” Adam McLaughlin, Manager of Michael Page Trade & Retail says: “Page Group are delighted to strengthen our partnership with the BMF with the opening of our second Regional Centre of Excellence in Birmingham. Members’ Annual Conference and Awards
The 2019 BMF Members Annual Conference and black-tie Awards Dinner takes place on 19 September at St George’s Park, Burton on Trent, the home of England’s national football teams, sponsored by Encon Insulation. The Conference will be hosted by TV’s David Domoney. The BMF’s annual Golf Tournament will be held on the
18 September at the newly- opened JCB Golf and Country Club.

Supplier BMF meets ‘bricks and mortar’ editor
Why property tax is ripe for change was on the agenda when Anne Ashworth, Property and Personal Finance Editor of “The Times” met the BMF. The BMF was part of an invited audience at a prestigious breakfast seminar in the City of London to hear Ashworth. She edits the ‘Bricks and Mortar’ section on Fridays, and the ‘Money’ section on Saturday.
Ashworth told guests that property professionals were openly questioning long-standing assumptions about Capital Gains Tax, Stamp Duty and Council Tax. Talking to Brett Amphlett,

BMF Policy and Public Affairs Manager, Ashworth said property taxes were now so unfair - especially for women - that something has to happen. Young people under 30 are being priced out of the market, she said, and they can see their fathers have everything.
One tax change Anne would like the Chancellor of the Exchequer to make is for Stamp Duty to be levied on the seller, not the buyer. But she conceded that ministers prefer to leave Stamp Duty untouched because it raises so much tax revenue for the Government.
