IT MAM CLOUD HELPS T&G TIMBER

A timber merchant that’s less than a year old tells BMJ it is already reaping the benefits of using cloud-based business management software

E

arlsfield-based T&G Timber opened last August, and owner James Guidera knew he would have to have software in place to automate core business processes. “I know from owning and running my own merchant for many years prior to this how much manual processes can slow you down,” he says. The company plumped for Trader Online, the cloud-based advanced business management software from MAM Software “Using software such as Trader makes day-to-day business much more efficient, saving us time and therefore money.” he says. Trader is designed specifically for merchants and retailers to integrate their sales, stock management, accounting and reporting processes into one easy-to-use package. T&G Timber supplies timber, sheet materials, ironmongery and mouldings to trade and retail customers. Guidera says: “We were

surprised by Trader - it looked nice, clear and uncluttered. Importantly, it was very user friendly and self-explanatory. We wanted a system staff could pick up quickly and use straight away without the need for endless training sessions.”

T&G Timber has identified a number of features in Trader that will allow it to continue to grow. “One of the features that caught our eye was the search functionality,” he continued. “If you search for a word or phrase, Trader also brings up ‘known as’ results. This means if someone uses different terminology we can easily find what they are looking for.”

Guidera also praises at the implementation and training he has received from MAM during their transition to Trader.T&G is using the flexible cloud-hosted variant of Trader. The Software- as-a-Service (SaaS) approach gives the same functionality as traditional on-premise software,

without the cost and time investments of overseeing server infrastructure. This has had positive financial implications

for the company, as cloud hosting has meant a reduced upfront investment. Guidera explains: “The cloud option keeps costs down for us, as there’s no need for expensive server hardware or for people to manage it. It doesn’t matter if you forget to back-up or upgrade as it’s all done for you. This gives us peace of mind.” Ben Whitehouse, senior sales manager at MAM Software, says: “We are delighted that T&G Timber chose Trader Online. We are confident that its intuitive operation will help them achieve their short-term goals, and its extensive functionality will be the foundations for their future success.” BMJ
