Minster awarded FORS Gold

Jewson Civils Frazer and Minster have been awarded FORS Gold accreditation for the logistics operation at their dual-branded Croydon branch.

The Fleet Operator

Recognition Scheme (FORS) is a voluntary accreditation scheme for fleet operators which aims to raise the level of quality within fleet operations, and to showcase best practice in safety, efficiency, and environmental protection. Gold is the highest accreditation awarded by FORS.

Chloe Watson, regional logistics manager for Jewson Civils Frazer and Minster, said: “We are pleased that the fleet operations at Jewson Civils Frazer and Minster Croydon have achieved FORS Gold status. We work hard to manage our work-related road risk (WRRR) and it is great that our first-class standards in this area have been recognised. “We take our

responsibility to other road users and the

environment very seriously and have made significant investments to ensure that our vehicles and drivers maintain the highest safety and environmental standards possible.”

Travis Perkins opens relocted

Cheltenham branch The Mayor of Cheltenham, Councillor Steve Harvey, visited Travis Perkins’ new branch in Cheltenham following the builders merchants’ site relocation. At 2.5 acres, the site includes a Benchmarx kitchen showroom, a new plumbing, heating and bathroom range, and a tool hire service.

The site is a low-carbon branch and it boasts solar panels, electric charging points, electric forklift trucks and a heat source pump. The Mayor of Cheltenham, Councillor Steve Harvey said: “I was absolutely delighted to be invited to open the revitalised and updated Travis Perkins Branch

Thames Valley. However, we noted that Abingdon and its surrounding area was seriously underserved and that flagged an opportunity for us. We were fortunate to be able to appoint a great local manager in Chris Wiskin and together, we built the branch based on his knowledge of the local community’s requirements. Although the Group has grown, we remain fiercely independent in our approach, outlook and dealings with customers – it is the reason for our success.”

Travis Perkins’ branch manager, Sean Watson, said: “We’re really excited to be opening the doors to our newly relocated site. At 2.5 acres the site is huge and will serve as a

109 year old Suffolk merchant to close

A builders merchant in Suffolk is to close after 109 years, blaming the impact of both Covid-19 and supply- chain issues.

Bussens & Parkin in Mildenhall in Suffolk, which has a kitchen and bathroom showroom as well as the

merchants, had “no choice” according to owner ken Thompson. “Closure during the pandemic hit us hard... and when we couldn’t get the products, trade stopped,” he told the BBC. Once the lockdowns ended, trade “started off steady” but then Brexit supply issues hit, as well as access to white goods, stopping business. Thompson has owned the King Street business since 2000, with a short break from 2015 to 2016. He now plans to retire, saying: “We’re not closing through choice and it’s the staff I feel sorry for.”
