MKM launches new branch in Scarborough
MKM Building Supplies, the independent builders merchant has opened a new branch in Scarborough. MKM Scarborough offers plumbing, heating, kitchens and bathrooms as well as landscaping, building, timber and sheet materials on a collect basis. The new branch will be located at Columbus Ravine, will welcome both trade and retails customers and offer a complimentary range of services and products to the existing MKM Scarborough on Seamer Road.

BMF announces first conference forum speakers
Carl Arntzen, CEO of Worcester Bosch was asked to join the Prime Minister for the launch of the Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution.
Arntzen was also one of twenty business leaders asked to join in a roundtable debate following the announcement. He said: “We at Bosch welcome the new “green industrial revolution” that has been set out by the Prime Minister. The UK is leading the world in its drive towards net zero carbon emissions by 2050, and we look forward to working with the Government to help turn admirable ambition into accelerated action. Although 2050 may seem a long way off, action needs to be taken now to ensure that we can reach it.

Builders merchants trade association the Builders Merchants Federation has announced its first speakers in the Industry Forum debate at the BMF All-Industry Conference 2021, which takes place next June in Harrogate, Yorkshire.
Andy Mitchell, CBE, chief executive officer of Tideway and Co-Chair of the Construction Leadership Council and Peter Hallitt, group trading director at Marshalls plc, will take part in the debate.
David Kilburn, the Founder of MKM Building Supplies Limited said: “This is an exciting new approach for MKM, we already have a fantastic presence in the area and we are hoping to build upon this to enhance the range of services and products that we offer in Scarborough. The town offers MKM a superb commercial opportunity to continue to build our presence and drive market share.”
Mitchell will provide a broader construction industry perspective, drawing on his experience as Co-Chair of the Construction Leadership Council as well as his role in number of major infrastructure projects. Hallitt will give a suppliers’ view, as a member of the executive team that has helped to ensure that Marshalls leads the hard landscaping sector, with a revenue of around £500m.

celebrates million hours milestone
British Gypsum is celebrating its team at the Kirkby Thore mine in Cumbira which has reached the feat of one million hours without a lost- time accident. The team at the plant in Penrith has taken a number of steps to achieve this milestone, including a new Lock Out Tag System (LOTO), removing fixed steel Stanley-style knives from the premises and improving the segregation of pedestrian and vehicular areas around the site.
