AND FINALLY
Chandlers and Parkers launch charity tea-bag throwing challenge
Can you throw a tea-bag into a mug from a distance of at least one metre? That’s the challenge that Chandlers Building Supplies and Parkers Building Supplies have laid down for customers, suppliers, and other merchants, in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. The #TeaBagChallenge aims to raise awareness and funds for the charity that is a tower of support for teenagers with cancer. This December, Chandlers and Parkers are asking everyone to get involved in the charitable challenge. As part of the Independent Builders Merchant Group (IBMG), the builders’ merchants have already received great support and involvement
from well-known YouTubers, former professional footballers and faces from the media as well as staff, customers and suppliers. All are sharing their hilarious fails and successes on social media with the hashtag #TeaBagChallenge and donating to the charity.
Sue McKinney, head of
marketing for IBMG said: “ We’ve had such fun doing the challenge, and we are hoping and asking everyone to join in. It’s so simple – just video your self trying to throw a teabag into a cup from at least a metres distance. It’s a challenge that everyone can do, irrespective of age, location or physical fitness.”
Marsh mascot raises £20,000 for UK children’s hospital charities Marsh Industries have raised
£20,000 for children’s hospice charities by sending its festive mascot, Sooey Marsh, along the highways and byways of Britain. Sooey was recruited by Marsh to lead their ‘Miles for Smiles’ Christmas fundraising campaign from November 16 to 20. His mission was to travel 20,000 miles across the UK in five days with the Marsh Transport Team; bringing a smile to every person he met along the way.
Marsh Industries donated £1 for every mile travelled by Sooey. Sooey smashed his 20,000-mile target on Friday 20 November prompting celebrations among the Marsh team and the children’s hospital charities that will benefit from the success of the Miles for Smiles campaign: Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity, Cardiff, Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity, Helping Hand – Charity to The Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children As Sooey criss-crossed the country he gained cult hero status on the Marsh social media channels with supporters sharing smiles and messages of

encouragement. His daily blog on the Marsh website was also a popular page for supporters keeping up to date with his activities throughout his mission. Mission Chief and managing director of Marsh Industries, Steve Boyer, said; “While they say laughter is the best medicine, I would also say a smile can help in most everyday problems. And I’m sure we can acknowledge that this has been a stressful year for many. “We hope that the successful completion of Sooey’s mission has helped our friends, colleagues and customers raise a smile and we are delighted to donate some much needed funds for children’s hospital charities in the process.”

Stelrad supports wheelchair rugby
Stelrad has donated two new specially adapted wheelchairs to the Newcastle Wheelchair Rugby Club – now known as North East Barbarians Wheelchair Rugby. The donation follows on from the company’s support and sponsorship of Newcastle Falcons in the Rugby Premiership. The two new chairs will allow two more players to play wheelchair rugby – and it’s a sport that is growing in popularity and one that needs funding and support to make it work properly – it costs in the region of £10,000 a year to run the club and whilst all the players pay monthly subscriptions, it’s vital that they can raise additional funds from local businesses and get grants from charitable sources in the region to cover their costs and keep the club in the black. Ex-rugby player Mick Armstrong is the man behind the club and he’s delighted with the additional two wheel chairs for the club: “The club is reliant on volunteers to run it, and we welcome any additional fundraising activities that we
can benefit from to ensure we have the necessary funds to keep functioning as a team,” he says. “Its gifts like this one from Stelrad that keep things moving and enable us to offer the sport to more individuals who are wheelchair bound in the first place.”
“It’s a great sport to watch and you quickly realise why the wheelchairs need to be adapted to cope with the robust nature of the game with regular full blooded collisions and no holds barred interceptions,” says Stelrad’s head of marketing Chris Harvey.
“We were delighted to be able to help in a small way by providing these two additional wheelchairs for the club. We have built a reputation over the years for supporting local sport up here in the north east and in South Yorkshire, where our manufacturing unit and national distribution centre are based.”

incredible long-term support. The dedicated staff and customers raised in excess of £150,000 in 2019 to support young people with cancer. Please get involved in the #TeaBagChallenge and let everyone know about the Teenage Cancer Trust. A donation to the JustGiving page is also very welcome. Every £30 raised helps fund an hour of specialised nursing support for a young person having treatment for cancer, so the ongoing support of Chandlers Building Supplies and Parkers Building Supplies and will continue to make a difference to people’s lives.”
Participants are asked to upload their attempts to Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram, using the tags and hashtags; @ChandlersBS @ ParkersBS #TeaBagChallenge @TeenageCancerTrust and nominate (tag three friends) to take the challenge.
