A time for new ideas
T
he low carbon technologies which are expected to transform the heating sector into the future are
now well defined, and it is encouraging to see significant work being done to prepare for a mass roll-out. This week two ground-breaking heat pump studies have been revealed which are assessing the feasibility of developing an innovative methodology for deploying heat pumps in high-density urban communities. The aim of the projects, in Greenwich and Leeds, is to support the switch to low carbon technology that will inevitably reduce energy demand. This comes at a time when we have to get serious about alternative fuel sources as the energy crisis deepens, and no-one can predict when it might end. Meanwhile Vaillant announced one of its boilers is now central to the H21 South Bank project which is carrying out research to assess the suitability of using the UK’s existing gas network for a mass roll-out of hydrogen. Most boiler manufacturers have been
innovating in this field and now offer product ranges that work with hydrogen. You can find out more about some of these in our showcase insert, the Commercial Boiler Supplement starting on pg 19.

STRONG START FOR HVACR LIVE L
aunched just last month, HVAC & Refrigeration Live has already attracted a proliferation of exhibitors and seminar speakers. The only
dedicated national show in the UK for the HVACR industry, HVAC & Refrigeration Live will be taking place at London Excel on 18 and 19 April 2023. “We seem to have hit the ground running,” said
event manager Tony Patman. “Early signs indicate that there is a real appetite for a UK national show for the industry. It doesn’t really come as a surprise given how the landscape has changed over the last couple of years. “Exhibitors who were on board for 2020 are keen
to show their support for the 2023 event and we’ve had a number of great quality potential exhibitors proactively approaching us, so I’m already optimistic that we’ll see a fantastic event.” Lynn Sencicle, managing
