BOILER INNOVATION

New player in domestic boilers B

Last month saw a new player arriving on the domestic boiler block when Daikin, specialist in air conditioning and heat pumps, launched its D2CND gas condensing boiler

ut there is more to this than simply moving into a new market for Daikin, which also hopes to grow its installer network by offering something they are already familiar with. Iain Bevan, commercial director for heating and

renewables at Daikin UK told journalists the company had about 250 to 300 installers who were trained to fit heat pumps but that Daikin wanted more installers to become familiar with new technologies it offered. “We can take installers a product they know how to install – a gas condensing boiler. This has three benefits for us. It raises the brand awareness for Daikin in the domestic heating market; it will help us increase our installer network; and it gives us the opportunity to talk to installers now and in the future about the business and how we can develop that business as the market changes and develops.” Mr Bevan said the D2CND was additional to Daikin’s range and should not be considered a core product, but it was a product which would interest a lot of installers. “This is a big step for Daikin to get into boilers which we will sell directly to gas safe registered installers,” Mr Bevan added. The new boiler is said to combine ultra-compact dimensions, quality components, smart control and contemporary style. Available as a combi or with cylinder connection to meet all hot water demands, the D2CND gas condensing boiler delivers an A rating for heating and A+++ for hot water when combined with solar thermal

and has a compact size of just 400 x 255 x 580mm for the 24kW model and 450 x 288 x 666mm for the 28 and 35kW models. The IPX5D standard and compact dimensions allow the gas condensing boiler to be installed in various rooms such as the kitchen, bathroom or inside cupboard units. For ease of maintenance all components are

accessible from the front and the side panels are removable for additional space, if required. Manufactured using premium components including an EBM Papst fan, SWEP plate heat exchanger, Grundfos pump and hydroblock, and Kromschro

products. It is designed with installers in mind, offering a small footprint, low lift weight and easy connections for simple installation. For added flexibility, the adaptive gas valve works with either natural gas or LPG and flue runs of up to 11m can be achieved. Mr Bevan said: “We’ve worked hard to develop a highly efficient boiler that’s one of the most compact in the market, offers smart control and has contemporary styling to suit modern homes. “End users will enjoy low operating costs due to its high efficiency whilst our installers are assured of a plug-and-play replacement with easy connections for simple installation – we believe it’s a win-win for everyone.” The boiler is available in 24, 28 and 35 kW models

der gas valve, with this new condensing

gas boiler, Daikin is delivering uncompromising quality at a highly competitive price. The D2CND fully modulates down to 2.9kW, and with a modulation of 1:8 it controls combustion with shorter intervals, adjusting the burner power to ensure continuous operation for enhanced comfort, as well as saving energy. Ensuring optimal comfort in the property, Daikin’s OpenTherm control system enables communication between the boiler and thermostat at all times for precision control, while the Daikin Eye continually monitors the performance of the combi boiler for optimal reliability. The smart comfort controller also provides the end user with a convenient way to control the boiler via their smart device. Using the Daikin heating app, the homeowner can view, monitor and adjust various settings to meet their requirements.

NEW PRODUCTS MEET DEMAND FOR WALL-HUNG BOILERS

aillant has unveil two new products to market, which have been developed to serve both the domestic and commercial markets. These two new models are the first products manufactured in Belper that will enable both domestic and commercial installers to provide tailored solutions to their customers. The ecoTEC plus 48kW and 64kW replace the

ecoTEC plus 46kW and 65kW wall-hung boiler range launched to the market in 2008. The new products are the first high output boilers of their kind to be released by Vaillant in over 10 years. The launch of ecoTEC 48kW and 64kW will allow domestic installers to provide lighter, smaller and more compact solutions than ever before. Customers will also be able to reap the benefits of greater efficiencies of ErP A+ rated. The ecoTEC plus 48kW and 64kW will also

represent a landmark moment in Vaillant’s light commercial offer to its loyal installers. Vaillant expects both domestic and commercial installers to be better able to grow their customer

base and explore opportunities thanks to the flexibility and practicality these boiler models are said to offer. Both models still have the familiar feel that installers will recognise, and commercial installers will find they are compatible with existing Vaillant commercial accessories, such as cascade rigs. This will enables installers to complete a job

quickly, with ease and without resorting to time- intensive shutdowns of existing heating systems where applicable. This is expected to help in making the day-to-day life of an installer easier,

thanks to quicker turnaround times for installations and safer manual handling with the products being smaller and lighter. In addition, ongoing servicing and maintenance

can be carried out with ease, as the front and side panels of the boiler can be completely removed for better access in tight and restrictive spaces. The new products have been developed in

response to rising demand for wall-hung boiler solutions across both commercial and domestic markets. Industry figures indicate that the commercial wall-hung market has developed from comprising 42% of the market in 2006, which was when Vaillant entered the commercial boiler market, to 68% in 2013. John Bailey, commercial and renewables

systems sales director at Vaillant comments: “We are delighted to launch these two new products to the market, which we believe will allow both domestic and commercial installers to have the real opportunity to grow their businesses.
