CONDAIR
A recently published study from the University of Oregon has demonstrated the eff ectiveness of ventilation, fi ltration and humidity to minimise airborne SARS-CoV-2 viral particles.
For three days each, 11 COVID positive subjects undertook diff erent activities in an environmentally controlled chamber. Levels of ventilation, air fi ltration and humidity were varied across the study period and the quantity of viral particles monitored in the air and on surfaces. The researchers found that increasing ventilation and fi ltration
signifi cantly reduced the amount of SARS-CoV-2 viral particles in both the air and on surfaces. When humidity was increased, viral particles in the air reduced by half and caused an increase in viral particles on surfaces.
Tony Fleming, head of sales cluster Northern Europe at Condair, commented: “This research is really signifi cant as it’s the fi rst study to demonstrate how air treatment strategies can impact the airborne transmission of COVID in a physical setting, rather than by computer modelling.

Samsung Climate Solutions has partnered with architectural designer Charlie Luxton to communicate the importance of greener heating options such as heat pumps. Best known for presenting TV programmes such as Building the Dream and Homes by the Sea, Charlie’s own architecture practice channels his passion for the environment and sustainable building. Samsung is constantly innovating, developing, and optimising its air source heat pump (ASHP) off ering to support the transition to cleaner and greener energy. Traditional gas boilers operate on fossil fuels whereas Samsung’s ASHPs use electricity and energy available in the outside air to generate heat.
Charlie said: “You need large corporations to invest and develop, and the fact that Samsung is doing that is a really good mix for the challenge that we’ve got ahead of us.”

WATERLOO
An iconic British motorcycle marque has moved into its new production facility at Solar Park in Solihull, with air distribution products by Waterloo Air Products. The project required an air distribution system designed to create a healthy environment for both machinery and people. Aesthetics were also a vital consideration to refl ect the brand and provide the perfect backdrop for the luxury motorbikes.
The air distribution system for the manufacturing fl oor where the motorcycles are hand-built has been fi tted with Waterloo’s RWH High-Flo Jet Diff users. Adjoining the manufacturing fl oor are a range of smaller offi ces which are designed with exposed services. Waterloo’s solution was the Circular Plate Vane Swirl Diff user (SDVC) which was supplied with a powder- coated fi nish to match the exposed duct work. For the main offi ces, which are served by a local heat recovery unit, Waterloo specifi ed a Square Plate Vane Swirl Diff user (SDVS) which could be mounted within the gridded or plasterboard ceilings.
