PPMA Show Preview variants. Its compact dimensions, high locking force of
3,900N and suitability to mount in three orientations ensures the CTS is suitable for use across numerous safety engineering applications.
Combined with highly-coded, transponder-based keys, the new CKS2 from Euchner forms a safe system that meets the highest safety requirements for machine and installation lockout and starting. Thanks to the integrated evaluation electronics and depending on the key used, various safety engineering tasks are possible with the compact CKS2 key system. Additionally, combining it with Euchner’s IO-Link Gateways expands its applications and enables comprehensive diagnostic and communication functions.
Unlike the CKS, the CKS2 can be integrated as a module within Euchner’s Multifunction Gate Box MGB2, expanding the functionality of the simple door interlocking solution to a small control terminal with access control.
A Delta 3000 flow wrapper with automatic infeed will take centre stage on IMA Ilapak’s stand (D10), demonstrating how food producers can reduce their line-side labour require-ment whilst reliably and efficiently producing hermetically sealed MAP packs from latest generation films.
With its heavy duty, hygienic design, the Delta 3000 is fast becoming the flow wrapper of choice for the fast-growing chilled sector, where it is used to pack everything from sandwiches, pies and cheese portions to fresh fruit & veg, meat, poultry and fish. IMA ILAPAK is currently experiencing particularly high demand from producers of sandwiches and hand-held snacks thanks to the Del-ta 3000’s ability to accommodate complex laminates, paper films and recyclable PE and PP mono-films with its long dwell sealing technology.
The long dwell sealing jaws and special surface treatments developed by IMA ILAPAK also ena-ble the Delta 3000 to run heat-sensitive mono-materials at high speeds.
At the same time, the Delta 3000 meets the chilled food industry’s stringent hygiene requirements by enabling full wash down capability, even of the sealing elements. This has been achieved through full stainless steel execution, isolating the electrical cabinet from the main machine frame and smooth, sloping surfaces without recesses.
IMA ILAPAK will also demonstrate its capabilities in VFFS (vertical form fill seal) applications, showing its Vegatronic 6400HD bagger and IMA Record will show the Panda Red horizontal flow wrapping machine, a flexible machine that can find application in both food and non food industries. Jarshire will be exhibiting in its own right following the company’s restructuring and relocation earlier this year. The focus of its stand may be summed up as efficient elements leading to cost- effective production processes.
Lightweight airshafts from Svecom Srl can benefit process speed. The shaft will centre cores; run concentric and faster than competitive products; carry more reel weight; has greater gripping power and will cope with reused or worn cores.
Knife holders and Slitting Systems produced by Espo srl include pneumatic knife holders for shear, crush and razor cutting that are rigid and compact in design and thus suitable for harsh conditions. Their patented knife flange ensures correct pre-load on counter edges. Complete slitting system solutions for on-line integration into cutting line, rewinder, slitter/ rewinder, sheeter or cutting machine may be manual or fully automatic.
Brakes and clutches from Renova srl are designed for unwinding and rewinding rolls of any size. Moviroll roll pushers that effortlessly manoeuvre large or small corrugated rolls on a flat surface. With battery- operated models also available, they are compact, robust and require little maintenance. Tecnomec3 srl specialises in the design and manufacture of spreader, bowed and banana rollers that are designed to eliminate creases and wrinkles and prevent interweaving of slit widths in slitting applications. The wide range of rollers includes curved with rubber covering, curved metal, adjustable bow curved, special curved with double bow for wet applications, Cordex rollers with wooden or steel base tubes and rollers with internal cooling and automatic greasing.
Lastly, Jarshire’s Reelsaver reduces waste and will restore 3”, 6” and 8” ID cores on old or damaged reel stock with a flick of a switch. Macsa ID UK will be highlighting its wide range of advanced coding and marking equipment. Amongst the systems on display will be the company’s iCON 3 small character laser coder. The ideal solution for most packaging applications, the third generation iCON is more reliable and efficient than its predecessors with features designed to further reduce carbon footprint whilst improving coding quality. Macsa will also be displaying its idTIJ small character thermal inkjet printer and idJET large character inkjet printer, as well as a print and apply labeller, iLaserBox 450 laser marking workstation and four versions of its Integra software for the control, management and optimisation of the production line.
Like Macsa’s previous iCON models, the iCON 3 is ideal for first time users of laser technology. Clean, fast and consumable-free, the iCON is extremely affordable yet offers everything you would expect from a high performance laser coder. In fact, in just over a year the iCON 3 will have cost less than an inkjet system.
The iCON 3 codes cleanly and permanently on food packaging and is capable of marking water, wine, spirits and soft drink beverage containers produced from PET or glass. It also meets the high standards of the pharmaceutical industry and
will code labels, tubes and boxes. The hand-held terminal is the operator’s point of access to all the functionalities of the laser and to the information related to the production line. Intuitive software and visual aids in video format allow operators to master the iCON 3 in no time without needing advanced technical knowledge.
The Wizard reduces laser set up time by a step- by-step system. The operator will be able to reduce almost 90% of the configuration time, avoiding the trial-error system of other equipment. A single demonstration line running on the
Omron stand (B34) at this year’s PPMA Show will reveal how a dynamic manufacturing operation – in this case filling – can see dramatic efficiency and uptime improvements from the deployment of AI in at least two areas: intelligent machine control; and fault detection and remediation.
Too many operations gather large amounts of often unusable data, which is stored in the cloud at plant level, and requires subsequent analysis before it can be acted upon. The first of Omron’s two areas of digital intelligence is focused at machine-level, through its Sysmac controller with edge-based AI. With filling handled by an i4 SCARA robot, the small bottling line will demonstrate how this technology can deliver real-time trend analysis and alerts on the fly. This live data-at-the-edge, combined with the controller’s adaptive intelligence, allows the system to flag up any anomalies. Depending on operational priorities, these could relate – for example - to fill level, visual defects or mechanical properties such as machine torque. Any deviation outside a defined window can be preset to trigger a visual alert, alarm or even – in the case of safety-critical variables – line shutdown.
During the many lockdowns and other restrictions of the past two and a half years, suppliers and users of equipment have often had to resort to remote digital troubleshooting. In the second area of applied AI to be demonstrated in Birmingham, Omron will show how it has recognised the strengths of this approach, and formalised them within an Advanced Services offering based on the use of augmented reality (AR). The bottling line, debuting in the UK on the stand will offer visitors the chance to see Omron’s Advanced Services in action.
In addition to the host of product launches and new technology demonstrations, the PPMA Group Industry Awards for 2022 will also take place at the show. On Wednesday 28 September, visitors to PPMA Total Show can join the celebrations of the industry’s finest, who will be rewarded for their achievements and commitment to delivering innovative products, performance-enhancing solutions and best-in-class services, when category winners will be announced and presented with their awards.
