Domino unveils N730i digital label press D

omino Printing Sciences globally announced the launch of the Domino N730i digital label press via a live virtual broadcast this month. This is a ground-up development and the first to use its new Domino Generation 7 ink jet platform. Domino Digital Printing Solutions division director hilip Easton says: “This is the most significant new product we have launched since we started in the digital label press business. It has been a huge collaborative team effort, spread over five years… We are so proud of what the N730i delivers, as we truly believe it is setting new standards in high performance ink jet label printing.” The N730i incorporates a host of brand new features, including the Brother BITSTARTM 1200dpi piezo print head, the SunLight graphical user interface, and the latest automated Domino i-Tech intelligent Technology features i-Tech SetAlign and i-Tech CleanCap2.

Global product manager Louise Adcock explains: “We have almost 1,000 global installations already using our existing

Generation 6 ink jet platform. During the development of the N730i, we really listened to our customers, so we are confident that this press will enable label converters to get the best return from their digital printing investment. Based on customer feedback, we focused on three key areas: providing consistent print quality at high speed, ease of use and flexibility.”

Unlike other systems, where higher printing speed is at the cost of reduced print quality or reliability, the N730i is designed to print all jobs, including those with ‘silk- screen-like’ white at 70m (230ft)/min, but still with the same consistent high print quality. The Brother BITSTARTM 1200dpi print head uses a combination of the smallest drop sizes of 2.1pl and nominal drop sizes of 2.8pl and 3.3pl to provide consistent ink density across the image, with sharper edges and smoother gradients. Patented triple-layer polycrystalline micro piezo technology minimises cross talk and delivers precise nozzle control for optimum drop placement accuracy. Domino’s intelligent Technology or i-Tech features represent developments designed to measurably improve efficiency, use, function and reliability. i-Tech SetAlign is a new automated system that sets density and accurately aligns the print heads. The result is uniform and seamless print quality across the full web width.

Durham Box creates stylish packaging solution for plant-based food brand

D

urham Box has created an end-to- end design and digitally-printed packaging solution for plant-based food brand, Tiba Tempeh. Founded in 2019, the London start-up has its range of innovative organic tempeh products stocked in over 500 stores across the UK as well operating an online shop. Previously using a simple 0201 brown box and solid board sleeve for product packaging, Tiba Tempeh’s founders tasked Durham Box with creating an impactful brand style to convey their core values for a healthier world and that plants have the answers. Tasty, healthy, easy and sustainable... you can have it all when you ‘Grab Life By the Pplants’.

Being able to deliver a single source for design, production, in-house digital printing and finishing facilities, Durham Box produced

the vibrant artwork, which was then printed on the firm’s Nozomi C18000 digital press. Durham Box is the first corrugated packaging manufacturer in the UK to offer single pass LED inkjet production for packaging, POS displays & corrugated board.

Commenting on the end result, Tiba Tempeh founder, Alex Longton says: “I am absolutely delighted with the printed boxes, which help add a lot of value to our brand and shopper experience. We were previously using brown boxes and one of our regular customers sent us an email after receiving their order, saying: ‘Just got the order, love the new branded box packaging!’” Durham Box’s Paul Barker said: “Delivering innovative packaging concepts from initial sketches to the brand’s print ready state, and managed through our unrivalled production technology with the Nozomi C18000, is how we achieve great solutions, with added-value for our clients at Durham Box. Tiba Tempeh is a great brand and we look forward to working together in the future.”
