Reel & Roll Handling
ULMEX launches Evolux concept U
LMEX – an international specialist with more than 20 years’ experience in the supply of technical components, consumer products, equipment, spare parts and services for packing, flexible packaging and flexo and rotogravure printing – presents Evolux, the innovative eco-friendly concept for laser cleaning of anilox rollers.
The a cutting-edge system is developed to become an integral part of a company’s production cycle. “Globally, this is one of the first integrated cleaning and inspection solutions capable of cleaning the entire anilox system efficiently and effectively. Evolux also uses automated predictive maintenance software that enhances print quality, while reducing costs and providing substantial benefits and savings,” says ULMEX director Angelo Maggi. Evolux also addresses key environmental sustainability requirements, as it avoids the use of chemical solvents, detergents, bicarbonate or other pollutants; this is particularly important for printers operating in the food packaging sector that are adopting green practices and using sustainable technology and materials.
At the heart of the Evolux technology is the exclusive pulsed-fibre laser source, which makes it possible to calibrate the power, frequency and characteristics of the pulse, to enable customised cleaning programmes. More than simply removing inks, it can also eliminate more stubborn residues, like paint, adhesives and silicone, whether solvent, water or UV-based. Once initiated using the built-in 21-inch touch screen monitor, the cleaning process is fast, quiet and completely automated, without needing operator supervision. Benefits of the Evolux system include the auto focus laser beam, which cleans each individual cell with uniform intensity and energy, ensuring homogeneous results along the entire roller table. The Evolux system features a 3D
microscope, which intensifies the cleaning process, making it possible to examine the volume, depth and geometry of individual anilox cells; providing important information when checking their life cycle. All of the data collected is handled by the proprietary D.A.M. (Dynamic Anilox Management) software. In a few simple steps it can process all of the data about a company’s anilox rollers; calculating, in advance, when the system will reach saturation, and making it possible to assess whether to clean the system or to schedule restoration. Evolux is available in five models of differing power, speed and dimensions. The range also includes the Evolux Smart system for mobile cleaning in specially equipped vehicles. “This was a great success from the very first product demonstrations, as well as in the first installations all over Europe,” says Mr Maggi. “All of our customers that have already integrated Evolux into their production process are appreciating tangible and measurable results.”

Packline offers reel handling equipment with small frame and high lift
he Compac C300 from Packline Materials Handling is a small frame roll handling equipment with a height extension. The innovative model was designed in response to a customer requirement in the food processing industry. The rolls are lifted to an increased height of 3m (118 inches) to access the processing machinery.
T
The lifting frame has been lowered to 1800mm (70.8 inches) for the lifting equipment to be manoeuvred through a low doorway. However, to lift the rolls to the required height of 3m, an extension to the lifting carriage of 1.2m facilitates this increased lift height.
The lifter encompasses a fully powered 3-inch vertical spindle attachment. This attachment is fully motorised and provides powered drives for both the roll gripping and release. These drives are operated via a hand-held ‘pendant’ control which
limiter so that the clamping rollers do not over or under tighten onto the reel. This feature enables the operator to lift and transport reels with complete confidence. The attachments enhanced design features include a greater load capacity, improved strength and durability which provides an easy and safe operation. It is entirely suitable for the food industry and other hygienic applications. All Packline attachments are fully interchangeable and can be easily fitted or removed from any model of ‘Compac’ lifting machine that is fitted with the quick release system. Specifications:
