Industry News Planning for the industry’s future at The Print Show 2021
Having postponed the 2020 show due to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Print Show is back for 2021, with the primary aim of helping to drive recovery in the market and allowing visitors and exhibitors alike to catch up on the latest goings on after a year of unprecedented disruption.
The Print Show 2021 will take place in Hall 7 of the NEC in Birmingham September 28-30, again welcoming a wide range of exciting exhibitors from all corners of the market.
As has been the case since the event debuted back in 2015, The Print Show will remain entirely focused on the UK printing market, playing host to the leading manufacturers and suppliers serving British print companies. “We’re really excited to be back planning for 2021 and cannot wait to welcome visitors from all across the UK to
the NEC this September,” event director Chris Davies said. “It’s been a really tough 12 months for the industry, but we firmly believe that The Print Show will be a catalyst in the market’s recovery, allowing people to reconnect and offer a major platform for exhibitors to showcase their latest developments.” The event will run in line with strict government guidance in terms of Covid-19, with the health and safety of visitors and exhibitors being the number one concern for organisers.“While we understand that some people may be a little hesitant about visiting a large event after all that has gone on, I want to make it clear that we are fiercely dedicated to the safety to all of those in attendance and we will ensure that all of the relevant Covid-19 protocols are in place.” This year, The Print Show will operate under the banner ‘Print Without Barriers’, designed to encourage visitors to look outside of their traditional markets and consider moving into other areas in order to diversify their service offering and win new work. Given what has happened over the past 12 months, this is more important than ever, with many print companies having seen demand for certain types of work decline. However, those businesses that are active in several markets, including key growth sectors, have been able to remain busy and, in some cases, grow.
Paul Macdonald bids farewell to Mark Andy
One of the UK and Ireland’s leading figures in narrow web press sales, Paul Macdonald has retired from his position as area sales manager for Mark Andy UK. He joined the company in 2007 and worked initially as a sales representative for the North of England and Scotland, before being appointed sales manager for the UK & Ireland in 2008.
Well known and highly respected amongst his colleagues and customers, Mr Macdonald has been a major driving force for Mark Andy presses over the years, with, he estimates, sales totalling more than £50million in value.
Announcing his retirement, he commented: “It’s been a lot of fun and often hard work, but I’ve loved my time in the industry and have met and made many good friends along the way. I’ll miss the buzz of exhibitions and the camaraderie of it all, but it’s time to hang up my hat, lace up my golf shoes and work on improving my handicap!”

Meech International takes on round- the-world challenge for charity
Meech International is bringing its global workforce together to support charities local to each of its seven offices around the world.
Meech has set itself an ambitious six-month target for employees to run, walk or cycle as far as they can over that time and then to combine the distances covered to move from one Meech office to the next, tracking progress as they go, eventually making the full journey of 20,250 miles around the world. Having begun the virtual journey at Meech’s global headquarters in the UK in March, employees have logged 2,189 miles so far, putting then in the middle of Turkey, which means they’ve now comfortably travelled beyond their other two European offices in Belgium and Hungary. Next stop is India and, beyond that, lies Singapore, China and then the US state of Ohio – home to Meech USA – before closing the loop and finishing the journey back in the UK by September 15, 2021. Meech CEO Chris Francis said: “We’re very involved in the local community in Oxfordshire, where our headquarters is located, and all of our offices around the world adopt the same approach in each of their local communities. We’ve set ourselves a huge challenge... but we’re proud to be raising vital funds for seven very worthy causes, while at the same time encouraging our staff to stay active and healthy.” Money raised through this challenge will go to the following charities; each selected by a local Meech office: Oxford Hospitals Charity (UK), Help for Cancer Patients (Belgium), Heim Pál Children’s Hospital (Hungary), Teach for India (India), Hospice Care (Singapore), China Red Cross (China), Fostering Independence (USA).
