The company contends that the ISO 140001 certification encourages it to make even more improvements and to set itself even more ambitious targets.

One company that is making this work, is beverage company Zerica, which believes that servicing and maintenance is one aspect of machines where improvements can certainly be made. A spokesman says: “Engineers have traditionally spent a lot of time on the road travelling from site to site in their vans to resolve problems. Sometimes, these visits will end up being very brief as the problem to resolve was very straightforward, while sometimes these visits can require a long and complicated intervention with even a second trip needed to bring the exact parts for the job that were not in the van initially.
