SECO to showcase live experiences of vending innovation at embedded world

SECO will showcase advances in smart vending technology at embedded world in Nuremberg, Germany, on March 10-12, 2026. Visitors will experience a live demonstration of a fully functional

smart vending/kiosk solution based on the Clea Vend platform and the KarL4 contactless payment terminal, which provides reliable edge-to-cloud connectivity for actionable business insights based on dynamic transaction and usage data. The demonstration simulates a real-world vending environment and shows how edge computing, digital payments, and cloud analytics can be combined into a single, end-to-end system. The setup features a 27” touchscreen display running on SECO’s SANTVEND single-board computer inside the vending machine, allowing users to browse products and complete purchases using a credit card payment flow enabled by the KarL4 contactless payment terminal. During each transaction, payments are processed and operational

data is collected locally at the edge, allowing the system to operate autonomously as a production-ready solution. Data is securely transmitted via the integrated LTE module to the cloud, where it is visualised in Clea Vend through real-time dashboards covering sales activity, payment methods, product performance, and machine status. Visitors to embedded world can also learn more about the

accelerated global deployment of SECO’s vending technology ecosystem. At the core of this offering is the KarL4 contactless payment terminal, which enables contactless transactions — including credit cards and mobile payments — and has already reached significant scale in Germany, accounting for approximately 14% of active girocard payment terminals and processing around 1.1% of all girocard transactions nationwide in the first half of 2025. “Our comprehensive and modular smart vending offerings suit the needs of customers who are looking for a partner to maximise the potential of their products and fully leverage new technological opportunities,” says Martin Duemling, senior product manager payment at SECO. “embedded world will give visitors a comprehensive overview of how these technologies can transform operations across multiple vending applications, leading to significant user advantages.”

Rhea wins the GOOD DESIGN Award 2025 with “Barista on Demand”

Rhea’s Barista on Demand has received the prestigious GOOD DESIGN Award 2025 in the Retail Fittings category, awarded by The Chicago Athenaeum - Museum of Architecture and Design, in collaboration with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. Barista on Demand was recognised by the international jury for its quality, sustainability and innovative value, standing out among over 1,100 projects from more than 55 countries. Rhea won the GOOD DESIGN Award in 2022 with its Monolite, a concept that is said to transform the traditional vending experience into an immersive, artistic and interactive moment.

Barista on Demand is described as a cutting-edge project

redefining the coffee experience: it is an autonomous coffee station capable of reaching consumers wherever they are, delivering a personalised coffee service through an intuitive interface. The concept transforms the traditional “go-to-shop” model into a new “shop-to-customer” approach, combining mobility, sustainability and technology, and bringing Italian design excellence to the world of innovative hospitality. “We are extremely proud to receive the GOOD DESIGN

Award once again, this time for Barista on Demand. This recognition reflects our long-term commitment to innovation, pursued with consistency and foresight, and bringing together advanced technology, Italian design, and a new way of conceiving the coffee experience. With Barista on Demand, Rhea is helping to redefine standards for the hospitality industry,” said Andrea Pozzolini, chief executive of Rhea. The GOOD DESIGN Award is one of the most prestigious design awards. Founded in Chicago in 1950 by former MoMA curator Edgar Kaufmann Jr., together with pioneers of modern design such as Charles and Ray Eames, Russel Wright, George Nelson, and Eero Saarinen, it honours the world’s best industrial and graphic designers and manufacturers for their pursuit of design excellence. Now in its 75th year, it is organised annually by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, in collaboration with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies and the Metropolitan Arts Press.
