feature: eco & sustainable MDAs
Is the idiom ‘Cooking on Gas’ still relevant?
There’s no doubt about the rapid progress of innovation, development and efficiency built within today’s MDAs (Major Domestic Appliances), and although the idiom may apply in reference of adaptive evolution, the actual future use of gas cooking could place this expression into the history books and replaced with, “Induction, a must, for Reduction.”

Home Appliances shared the following facts to IER, “We have championed eco-friendly induction
technology for many years through our Stoves and Belling brands, but I think it is fair to say that both the technology and its application has developed significantly in the last couple of years, in part due to the focus on sustainability. “In particular, the induction range cooking
sector has really grown – making it the only fuel sector that grew in value in 2023 – and this is down to the safer, smarter, faster and greener benefits it offers which all play into induction being a more cost-efficient way of cooking. “Many consumers are conscious of making
eco-friendly choices when it comes to appliances and of course the on-going cost of living crisis and high energy costs plays into that as well. But it is not just about the appliances

system is a world-first in range cookers, full flexibility and freedom to place up to six pans anywhere on the single, full-surface cooking area. “And, continuing the theme of supporting
themselves, it is about how they are used and, as manufacturers, we need to support retailers and the consumers themselves with extra advice to help maximise the products’ use. “A good example of this is the FreedomFlex™
induction hob that we applied to our Stoves Deluxe collection. This true zoneless induction

customers in getting the very best out of our appliances, this year we launched the Belling Energy-Saving Recipe Book which contained a host of lower-energy versions of much-loved dishes and meals, as well as tips and tricks to maximise the use of appliances. Our research showed that just an hour a day of cooking can cost a household £209 per year in fuel costs so the book aimed to help consumers cut those costs and it has been phenomenally successful, reaching millions of consumers via press and social media.” ‘Cooking on Gas’? Whilst referring to adaptive
evolution, more than likely, will “Induction for Reduction” probably be a more appropriate idiom?
