dishwashers

More room for bigger appliances Hotpoint’s Jennifer Taylor agrees more can be

done. “Research commissioned by Hotpoint has found that of the 1,066 surveyed participants, 42 percent believed that dishwashers are a waste of energy, while over 55 percent expressed that they do not have enough space for one. These insights demonstrate that there is still much work to be done for the dishwasher to win over the nation. “On average, a dishwasher can save up to 35 minutes a day – saving precious time and allowing the user to get back to what matters most to them. Dishwashers offer genuine assistance in the every-day running of the home and slimline models are perfect for those

who are interested in purchasing a dishwasher, but believe they do not have space for one. Slimline dishwashers from Hotpoint measure just 450 mm in width (the same width as a tea towel) and offer impressive capacities, efficient loading and functionality.” There are of course other factors at play which will have a positive impact on increased dishwasher sales, as Charles Bernstein at Whirlpool explains. “The positive movement in the dishwasher market is also linked to developments in the construction sector over recent years. In particular, the increase in housebuilding has generated more opportunities for the market to expand as developers view a dishwasher as an essential component of the modern kitchen. In addition, dishwashers contribute to increasing the water and energy efficiency in the home, therefore it is unsurprising that an increase in new homes is having a positive effect on dishwasher sales. “Another factor affecting dishwasher sales is undoubtedly a maturing population. The most important consideration for the next generation of homeowners, who have all grown up with a dishwasher, is that they would not consider a home without one, leading more housing developers to factor them in to new builds and renovations. Attitudes towards dishwashers are changing and definitely becoming more positive, increasing greater household penetration towards the levels of those enjoyed by our European neighbours.” For Richard Treffler, product manager

for laundry and dishwashing at Miele GB, modern kitchen design is also playing its part.

“The rise in popularity of handleless kitchen designs has driven an increase in appliances that slot into this aesthetic. Miele’s top of the range models with Knock2Open technology is the perfect choice as the appliance can be fully integrated into the kitchen design and the door can be opened with an effortless tap.” AEG’s Luke Harding adds that a maturing

market means that previous generations of appliances are now reaching end-of-life and consumers are looking for alternatives. “At AEG, we are starting to see a growing ‘replacement’ market for integrated dishwashers. Consumers are either becoming frustrated with their current dishwashers or wanting to switch to a more efficient model. We believe that this trend is being driven by improved energy efficiency and appliances that use less water than washing by hand. Consumers will also replace their current dishwashers if the appliance becomes too small for their needs or is no longer meeting washing and drying expectations. “To meet evolving consumer needs and

expectations, we have developed the new AEG ProClean range of integrated dishwashers. This range focuses on solving consumer pain-points, such as water efficiency and improved drying. Our AEG ProClean dishwashers provide superior cleaning results using just half the water of a regular dishwasher. During each cycle, some water is saved in the storage tank to re-use in the prewash phase of the next cycle. This could save up to 2,100 litres of water per year – equivalent to 12 bath tubs.
