Training
6:00am “I then set off to head to work and clock-in by 6:00am on-site.” 7:00am “Recently, I have been working a lot on fitting control panels, so my first job was to finish off the panel I had previously been working on and then start to prep for the next one after this. Both of these took me about three hours in total to complete.” 10:00am “I then quickly grabbed a bite to eat on my break and got ready for my afternoon tasks.” 11:00am “Next, I started to work on grinding down the tray that would fit into the control panel I had been working on earlier in the day. It’s crucial for me to wear a face shield for this task.”
Ben Gillin, now working at Lloyd Morris Electrical
Ben Gillin currently works at Lloyd Morris Electrical, one of Wales’ leading electrical engineering and contracting companies. He also recently reached the finals of SkillELECTRIC UK, where he was awarded second place. Ben gave an insight into a typical day on- site at Lloyd Morris Electrical and delves into the foundational skills that his apprenticeship qualification has provided, which allow him to excel in his current role. 5:00am “I usually tend to start quite early at work, so I say a quick goodbye to my dog before heading out the door.”
“Completing my apprenticeship with JTL equipped me with a set of key foundation skills which now mean I’m able to perform a wide variety of tasks in a high- quality and efficient manner.”
1:00pm “Finally, I finished off the day by wiring the panel doors and heading over to the computer to print off the panel stickers for the finishing touches.” 2:30pm “After an early start, I then clocked out for 2:30pm and headed home, ready to go again tomorrow!
“Completing my apprenticeship with JTL equipped me with a set of key foundation skills which now mean I’m able to perform a wide variety of tasks in a high-quality
and efficient manner. There are so many different opportunities that you gain through apprenticeships that you may not get if you decide to go through the university route. It’s a great way to gain valuable qualifications while earning a wage.”
JTL, a leading
apprenticeship provider across England and Wales, currently trains around 8,000 apprentices
Demi and Ben’s ‘a day in the life’ overviews provide insights into the wide variety of career path opportunities that an apprenticeship qualification can provide. Both individuals are shining examples of former JTL apprentices that are now able to apply the knowledge and skills that they learnt during their training, to a real-world environment and role.
