exam results. I took a YTS as a warehouse operative for, at the time, an unheard-of German manufacturer called Hager UK. I joined with no idea of what I wanted to do other than get a job. This route is still the same for the majority of people joining our sector. When running workshops today, I always ask the people what they wanted to do when they left school. I have never had one person who has said I wanted to be a Branch Manager or a Rep for a Manufacturer - it just doesn’t happen. I was more than lucky in my early career, why? Because I was employed by a boss (or more correctly a leader) who looked at all of his team as potential, recognising them not for what they had done in the past but what they could potentially achieve in the future if allowed to. approach to continuous learning and development, he created a production line of great talent that helped to drive the business in the UK from a little-known European business to UK market leader. Many of you reading this article will have had experienced a similar journey, and been lucky enough to work for a similar leader (or two) who changed your destiny and recognised your raw talent and ability. At Pinnacle, we took this philosophy as one of
our core foundations. When we began, our guiding principle was, and continues to be, a truly dedicated industry learning and development provider. We have spent 18 years working with wholesalers, buying groups and manufacturers ranging from ‘One Branch’ independents to what could be called ‘The Big Boys’, to develop an offer that is totally bespoke to the sector and delivered by trainers who have extensive sales and/or management experience in the industry. become more effective but also to make their day-to-day lives easier and more enjoyable. We believe in working with our customers as
true partners, and spend time learning about the customer’s culture and way of working to determine specific training needs before making any recommendations or designing bespoke training modules. As we all know, no two businesses are ever the same. In what can sometimes appear to be a
crowded market place, with new entrants seeming to appear daily, the one key differentiator is going to be your people. We hear often that ‘People Buy from People’ and we believe this to be true. If this is the case, then surely, the wisest investment we can make is in
our teams to help them reach and achieve their huge potential.
Our mission as a business is to help our
customers not only recognise the huge talent in their company but to also help unlock its potential and empower the people to exceed. As an industry we have so much talent, and as leaders we just need to help our people realise their potential.”
