Cover Story
the Axiom brand expanded with smoke and heat alarms, mini RCBOs and further consumer unit devices plus an LED dimmer switch range. Meanwhile Meridian was strengthened by the addition of lighting controls and new emergency fittings with Airmaster boosted by a new range of Lot 20 approved panel heaters. Continuing this trend, the early part of 2019 sees the launch of a new site electrics range as well as 3 phase boards under the Axiom umbrella, plus a new range of wall lights from Meridian.
New Axiom AXM White Moulded Accessories Over and above all these new lines is the major launch of a comprehensive range of Axiom white moulded accessories, priced to meet the needs of electrical contractors. This AXM range is a classic CED product, designed and manufactured to high quality standards yet priced competitively. Over fifty product lines include all the wiring accessories needed for day to day business. The range is CE approved, guaranteed for 25 years and a first for CED, as all products are Trade Priced less standard or special stockist discounts.
Customer Service Levels It’s clear that over the past decade that electrical wholesalers have experienced a cost related reduction in stock holding – therefore requiring suppliers to not only hold more stock but to be able to deliver smaller, but more regular, orders complete and on time. CED knows that improvements are needed in this area, and a bank of measures has been and will continue to be introduced to satisfy these requirements. In 2017, CED built a new bulk warehouse in Rainham, Essex – just 15
minutes away from its main picking warehouse and HQ in Dagenham. This new facility added a further 30,000 sq ft of floor space to the 50,000 already in Dagenham, but, as the building was 15m high and narrow aisled, it doubled capacity with a further 5,000 pallet spaces. More recently, substantial investment has been made in a stock optimisation software system enabling major steps forward in forecasting and stock control. This, when combined with advanced new warehouse management systems and the increased warehouse space, will help to deliver highly competitive levels of complete and on time deliveries.
Some Things Don’t Change Whilst the 25 year milestone has incentivised CED to begin the Next Phase of the Company’s growth, some things will not change – such as quality, a key staple. All CED’s facilities have been ISO 9001 approved for the past 15 years, which, linked with pre-testing of all new products and random batch testing of all finished products, combine to maintain high levels of both quality and customer service. The company will also continue to increase support for current, and especially new, products with regular advertising and press coverage to both its electrical wholesale base and, to help the pull through of product, to the electrical contractor. A recent major initiative into the world of social media will also boost this marketing support.
