"Sonos are delighted to add Hughes Trade as a UK sub distributor,"

Rexel pair ready to tackle Everest for EIC

FireAngel strikes deal with Osprey Housing Association

n order to provide smoke and heat alarms for over 1,200 of its properties across North-East Scotland, FireAngel Safety Technology has secured a contract with Osprey Housing Group. The new partnership was formed in response to the Scottish Government’s changes to the Housing (Scotland) Act, which now requires an LD2 Specification. The latest legislation requires all Scottish homes to have sealed long-life battery or mains wired interlinked alarms installed, with one functioning smoke alarm in the room that is most frequently used by the occupants in the daytime. A battery-operated carbon monoxide alarm is also required to be fitted in each room with a carbon-fuelled appliance or flue. FireAngel was selected by Osprey Housing Group as the supplier of choice

I

through the Procurement for Housing Scheme. Its industry-leading battery smoke and heat alarms, the SM-SN-1 and HM-SN-1, along with its interlinked mains-powered smoke and heat alarms, the WST-630 and WHT-630, were chosen to help the housing association achieve constant compliance across all 1,200 properties.

T

wo Rexel employees will be taking on their biggest challenge ever later this year, as they trek to Everest base

camp in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for the Electrical Industry Charity (EIC). The adventure will take place over a two-week period this autumn, starting on the 28th September and ending at the famous base camp on 10th October. Rexel’s Head of Branch Marketing, Kate Adamczyk, and Head of

C&I, Rachel Griffiths, are the brave pair planning the trip. They will take on the challenge alongside 12 other explorers and will be accompanied by an ex special forces guide as they climb the 17,500ft to base camp. Kate said: “Rachel and I wanted a challenge that would test our

minds, bodies and souls and we think taking on the greatest walk in the world fits the bill. “Our aim is to raise £5,000 each, so £10,000 in total for the fundraising event, which will in turn support the EIC – a charity close to our hearts as members of the Rexel team have benefited from the support they offer. “We have had close ties with the charity for many years and have

undertaken various challenges in the past to raise funds. The charity does a fantastic job of helping people facing real hardship within our industry and we’re thrilled to be representing them on this expedition.”

Opportunity knocks with SAP E

lectrical wholesalers and installers are being reminded of the opportunities available to them

following the recent publication of the latest Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) 10 and the subsequent decision by the Greater London Assembly (GLA) to use the updated carbon emissions factors. Alan Clarke, Technical Support Manager at Heatrae Sadia, commented: “The GLA’s decision is a major step forward for the heating industry. The pre-emptive use of SAP 10 will ensure that a more contemporary approach to electrical hot water generation within residential dwellings is taken – meaning that it is likely to become a better proposition for major multi-occupancy dwelling developments.” “To stay ahead of the regulatory curve, wholesalers should consider working closely with manufacturers to ensure that they are prepared to meet the influx in customer demand for electrical products, while assisting developers and specifiers to make an informed decision about the type of product that should be used”, Alan said. Alan concluded: “The GLA’s decision to use the updated carbon emissions factor of SAP 10 could kick-start a trend that sees more councils in England and Wales taking into consideration the revised figures – before Part L of the Building Regulations is implemented. Wholesalers can help themselves by being aware of the changes and the impacts they could have on demand”.
