BEAMA publishes IAQ position paper UK takes its place on the
B
EAMA marked World Ventil8 Day
with the publication of a position paper urging the Government to broaden the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) remit to recognise and assess the indoor air quality of homes. The paper outlines a simple example of how an assessment could work. With over £1bn of the NHS budget spent on health issues related to poor indoor air quality each year, BEAMA argues that urgent action is required to maximise occupants’ awareness of the issue. In the first quarter of 2023 over 450,000 EPCs were lodged in England and Wales, which presents a significant opportunity to make a simple assessment of a home’s ventilation performance. The UK Government has recently announced
plans to invest an initial budget of £3.4m through its Warm Homes Plan and mandate minimum energy efficiency standards for private rental properties by 2030. BEAMA believes that there is a strong case for EPC reform to maximise the policy impact of these initiatives.
ETIM International Board M
argaret Fitzsimons, representing ETIM UK, has been elected to the
executive board of ETIM International following the organisation’s recent AGM in Italy. Margaret will serve on the board for the next three years alongside representatives from ETIM organisations in Norway, the Netherlands, North America, Finland, France and Germany. Members of the ETIM executive board are elected from the ETIM International General Assembly, the body representing each of its 19 country organisations.
Margaret has represented the UK on the General Assembly since 2017 when the UK
joined ETIM International and the data standard was adopted by the UK in the electrotechnical sector.
Margaret commented: “The universal adoption of the ETIM standard by UK manufacturers in the electrotechnical, building materials, plumbing and HVAC sectors continues to be a priority. The ETIM standard brings both reliability and consistency to the way technical product information is organised and made available to wholesalers and merchants. Without ETIM, the idiosyncratic organisation of product information wastes time and effort, putting the burden on the wholesalers or merchants to find workarounds.”
