Connecting the dots on smart security adoption
In recent years, the security market has had a major revamp, with a helping hand from smart technology.
W
ith the popularity of smart home security products only growing, Karl Woolley, head of product for Yale Retail, highlights the product categories wholesalers should be prioritising to capture this demand and boost sales as we enter the new year. In the past decade alone, the humble lock and key has had a smart makeover, leaving physical keys in the past and allowing homeowners to lock and unlock their doors with a smartphone. Alarms, security cameras and doorbells have followed suit, all having a smart upgrade to effortlessly fit into a 21st century home. With new products being introduced on a more consistent basis in 2024, it’s no surprise to see UK adoption rates of smart home products continuing to grow. According to recent data from GreenMatch, around 39% of UK households have smart home products as of 2024, with further research estimating that more than half of UK homes will be referred to as ‘smart homes’ by 2027.
Smart networks
While the growth for smart home products shows no signs of slowing, consumer behaviour also shows increased preference for connected devices that work together as part of a wider ecosystem.
To ensure wholesalers are capturing interest in the smart security products that are currently in high demand, it’s worth shifting the focus from investment in individual smart security products to those that connect to make a full system. In recent years, experts at Yale have been quick to spot this shift, noticing how consumers not only prioritise security protection when it comes to purchasing security products, but also convenience too in the form of connected devices.
Connectivity
As more and more smart security products continue to enter the market, consumers have learned to expect connectivity between devices as standard. Whether it’s consumers looking to increase the protection of their home with additional products or voice assistant connectivity for added convenience, controlling smart devices via one central ecosystem continues to be the goal.
The home security experts at Yale have responded to this consumer shift by developing the new Smart Security Ecosystem, designed to suit the needs and demands of its customers. While each solution acts as a highly secure, standalone security product, the range has been designed to prioritise connectivity, with all the products working together to ensure heightened security and convenience for customers. The new Ecosystem covers all areas of the home to provide a full kit for wholesalers and their customers - from Smart Security Cameras, one for indoor protection and one for outdoor use, to a Smart Video Doorbell, a new product category from the Yale experts. With a range of features, such as high-quality HD footage, motion-triggered recordings and night-vision, these new additions to the Yale Ecosystem not only offer peace of mind for homeowners,
but make a worthy investment for wholesalers looking to boost sales in the new year. Yale has increased the connectivity by ensuring the full smart range, including its security cameras, smart locks and smart alarms, work together under one roof – the Yale Home app. Ensuring all these products work seamlessly together under this user-friendly app means wholesalers are recommending a connected ecosystem to their customers, providing ample upsell opportunities across the full Yale Smart range.
Recent statistics from the Smart Home Buyer Index 2024 revealed that home security was named as one of the biggest reasons for integrating smart technology into homes, with 75% of homeowners looking for peace of mind and security through their smart devices. Whilst intelligent design and convenient features are a key element to achieve peace of mind for consumers, when it comes to security, homeowners will be more likely to opt for a well- known brand in the sector.
With Yale’s long-standing heritage in security and home protection, this provides additional reassurance for homeowners, offering the most up-to-date smart technology paired with a strong security background.
