New Schneider partnerships to reduce environmental impact WMC publishes white paper on
S
chneider Electric has fi nalised the acquisition of EcoAct, an international leader in climate consulting and net zero solutions headquartered in Paris, France. The acquisition represents the coming together of two “best-in-class” organisations to accelerate business solutions that deliver true value for both climate and clients.
EcoAct’s portfolio of net zero and nature-based products and services, including consulting, climate data tools, and carbon off set project development, will expand and accelerate Schneider Electric’s global Sustainability Business.
The joining of the two organisations expands Schneider Electric’s capabilities to provide end-to-end solutions that lead organisations through the net zero transformation and beyond. In other news, Schneider has announced a partnership with ArcelorMittal whereby the latter will supply XCarb recycled and renewably-produced steel for Schneider’s electrical cabinets and enclosures.
Produced at ArcelorMittal’s site in Sestao, Spain, XCarb is made using a very high proportion of recycled steel in an electric arc furnace, powered with 100% renewable electricity. This results in CO₂ emissions which are close to 70% lower than the same product made without XCarb.

‘fi re survival’ circuit cables A
new white paper from Wrexham Mineral Cables (WMC) explains how to address serious failures of vital building safety systems through enhanced
understanding of cable specifi cation.
Free to download from the company’s website, the white paper, titled ‘Expecting the unexpected: specifying safety-critical circuit cables for fi re survival, was written in
response to a growing frustration at the lack of progress made on building safety as a result of the lessons learned from the Grenfell Tower fi re. Building systems depend on the electricity supply being maintained in order to help keep occupants safe as they evacuate, advises WMC. As several recent high-profi le building fi res show, when this critical system fails it causes extra damage to property and puts more lives at risk. The cables that supply those systems are inherent to fi re safety.
The purpose of the white paper is to guide and educate specifi ers and installers about the impact cable specifi cation has on safety-critical systems. After reading this technical paper, specifi ers will have a better understanding of how fi re performance cables work and their role; fi re performance cable testing, and issues with that testing; and why cables classifi ed as fi re-resistant might not perform in true fi re scenarios.
