Focusing on the electronics industry’s training needs


It has been a very busy 2024 for both Advanced Rework Technology Limited and IPC combined.

PC released two new revisions of popular standards in March 2024. The first being one of the oldest standards first released in 1983 now updated to revision J. The IPC-A-610 is the Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies and the most widely used electronics assembly acceptance standard in the electronics industry. Participants from 31 countries provided their input and expertise to bring this document to the electronics industry. IPC-A-610 is a must-have standard for inspectors, operators and others with an interest in the acceptance criteria for electronic assemblies.


The second is the companion document to the IPC-A-610 and both documents are released together, the IPC J-STD-001 is now updated to revision J. IPC J-STD-001 is recognized globally for its criteria on soldering processes and materials. Updated with participants from 27 countries providing input and expertise. IPC J-STD-001 is a must-have for those in the electronics industry with an interest

in the process and acceptance criteria for electrical and electronic assemblies. These are commonly referred to as synergy documents as they are designed to be used in conjunction with each other. The J-STD-001 for process and the IPC-A-610 for final acceptance.


Although ART Ltd has grown to become the largest IPC Master Training Centre in Europe our beginnings are much humbler. ART Ltd was founded in 1988 by Barry Morris whom while working and training for Marconi in Chelmsford, Essex realised there was a gap in the industry for both soldering training and electronics rework. Barry’s original training courses are the foundation on which ART Ltd stands on today. In 2024 we still teach courses based on the fundamental criteria first laid out in 1988 now updated for 2024. ART Ltd offer courses on basic or beginner’s hand soldering, through hole and surface mount rework and BGA rework to name but a few. Interesting in 2024 though is the number of companies contacting us to either teach bespoke courses specifically designed for them,

or more interestingly to create and develop courses for them based around their own individual requirements. These courses are then trained in-house by their own staff after being taught by ART Ltd to meet the required level we expect.


This year ART Ltd has been focused on helping the electronics industry with the deficit in skilled staff. We have been working


with schools, colleges, universities and additional training providers with STEM and focused training to help the new generation transitioning into electronics. ART Ltd have partnered with The PCB Design School in Colchester, Essex to help individuals, companies and students get a much higher understanding of PCB design requirements.
