Oxley Group and Astute to offer LED lighting to the defence industry
O
xley Group, a manufacturer of high-specification LED lighting for the defence industry, has gained recognition for both its products and commitment
to developing future talent. The Ulverston- based firm recently won the Developing Future Talent category at Make UK’s National Manufacturing Awards, overcoming challenges in Cumbria’s skills landscape. Last year, Oxley’s UK distribution partner Astute Group received a Service Excellence award from defence prime contractor Leonardo, joining only five other UK-based suppliers to receive this prestigious global recognition.
Oxley Group’s expertise is exemplified by their recent contract to supply LED lighting for the British Army’s Challenger 3 Main Battle Tank. This £1.39M contract will see Oxley providing internal cabin, breach, and task lighting for the program. This success builds on their previous contract win to supply LED lighting for the UK MOD’s Mechanised

Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme. The company’s manufacturing site in Ulverston employs 150 skilled individuals, and securing these defence contracts supports further growth and safeguards essential manufacturing capabilities within the UK.
Astute represents Oxley’s electronic components range, a partnership that is said to bring significant benefits to the defence industry, including: EMI filters: Oxley specialises in advanced EMI filtering solutions, including
Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS). Their sophisticated UK-based manufacturing facilities enable rapid turnaround times for both standard and customised filter designs.
Lamp products: Oxley’s panel mount LED indicators are designed for the most demanding industrial and military environments. Rugged construction with ingress protection up to IP68 ensures reliable performance. Their modular design allows for a wide range of colours, EMI shielding, night vision compatibility, and sunlight viewing.
Oxley’s LED bulb replacements offer ‘plug-and-play’ convenience and multi- voltage functionality, making them a versatile choice for diverse defence applications.
Astute is an authorised distributor and design-in partner for Oxley Group lighting components and EMI filters.

Filtronic cements position in LEO market with a new follow-on contract for Cerus 32
R
F- and mm-Wave specialist Filtronic has signed a contract worth £7.8m with a leading low Earth orbit (LEO) organisation. This is Filtronic’s largest order
win to date with this new space pioneer and it represents increased customer confidence in Filtronic technology, according to the company.
As part of the contract, Filtronic will supply generation two of the Cerus 32 high performance E-band solid state power amplifier (SSPA) for use in the deployment of the customer’s E-band enabled ground station network.
The second contract with the same customer is a development agreement to accelerate the design and prototype delivery of an E-band module that would form part of the satellite payload and provide downlink connectivity to the E-band ground station.

Subject to successful qualification testing and field trials this module will represent the first Filtronic product designed for space flight and is a key part of the company’s strategy to address the satellite element of the LEO space market.
Richard Gibbs, chief executive officer, said: “We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the leading global provider of LEO satellite broadband services, and proud of the way we have scaled our operations to supply production volumes of the Cerus32 SSPA module for their ground station network. The fact that the customer has also decided to fund Filtronic for their second-generation payload solution, due to be launched later this year, is a further testament to our credibility and expertise in RF design, and our ability to bring complex RF products to market for an aggressive launch schedule.”
