Complete solutions with safety in the system
ow is machine safety achieved? In the past, this question was answered by additional architecture specifically for the safety concerns of an application. With the new solution for functional safety technology, KEB Automation now also provides the foundation for highly integrated machine safety – saving the machine manufacturer space, time and money – and also offers new possibilities in implementation. Complete integration of the safety architecture in the automation system is the goal of the new KEB solutions. The extensive practical implementation takes place in three levels: • Integrated automation with safety control and safety I/Os. • Drive-based safety functions in
H
drive controllers. • Complete engineering tool for production of system solutions. The concept is implemented by the C6 SAFETY PLC which is the FSoE Master, and safe inputs and outputs in the KEB-I/O system as C6 SAFETY I/O for decentralised installations. In addition, KEB Generation 6 drives offer scalable safety functions directly in the drive controller. KEB COMBIVERT S6-A and F6-A are servo systems up to 5.5kW and universal drive controllers for power levels currently available up to 90KW, but soon to increase to 400KW, which offer extensive safety functions in the new ‘Application’ version with Safety Module 3 (SM3), providing 15 Safety functions for the motor / drive combination. The turnkey solution is completed
with the extension for safety functions in the COMBIVIS Studio 6 engineering tool, which allows the complete planning and implementation of systems including safety-oriented components. Complete integration of safety functionality in the tool means that a software environment combines parameterisation and programming
of conventional, i.e. non-safety- oriented, and safety-oriented parameters, programs and functions. This complete solution allows freely programmable development for applications with safety standards IEC 61508 SIL3 and DIN EN ISO 13849-1 PLe. Function-specific wizards provide assistance with the work enabling a quick set up. KEB’s safety solution considers the complete system and is based on established technologies, and integrates seamlessly into the working environment. Thanks to the complete solution approach, it offers a better overview with easier fault location and fault diagnosis with the highest safety standards, so even complex functions can be implemented easily. In Summary what does this mean
to machine builders? 1. Certified to an IEC 61508 SIL3
level: As it has been evaluated by a third-party safety agency and carries the appropriate certification, when coupled with similarly certified safety hardware, the machine builder will have an easier time certifying the overall machine for functional safety. 2. The FSoE is an open protocol
published by the (ETG): In short, because Failsafe over EtherCAT is open, it gives machine builders an increasing number of product options from a number of vendors. 3. As the Safety system is FSoE,
it can be implemented with other networks: Again giving machine builders flexibility in choice of products and suppliers used. 4. Utilising FSoE saves wiring costs and time: There are a number advantages to replacing the discrete wiring: reduction in wiring time; reduction in wiring errors; cleaner panel layout; and better noise immunity. 5. Functional Safety in the Drive (Safety Drive Profile): With the Safety module KEB’s drives they offer the following integrated functions; STO, SS1, SS2, SOS, SLS, SLP, SLI, SDI, SSM,SAR, SEL, SLA,SMS & SSR. Again increasing flexibility and functionality for the machine manufacturer.
