SUPPLEMENT ELECTRONICA 2016 15 COG MEMBER COMPANIES ADVISE THE BEST MEASURES TO COMBAT OBSOLESCENCE T

he increasingly shorter life cycles of products for certain

consumer sectors seriously influences the availability of even the most innovative electronic components. More and more producers of durable goods from the automation, automotive, railway, power station, medicine or military technology sectors, which depend on a secured provision of electronic spare parts, have to cope with availability. However, a careful and forward thinking strategy may help to minimise, or ideally even eliminate, many typical obsolescence risks. The best obsolescence strategies

in practice will be examined by experts of the Component

Obsolescence Group (COG) Deutschland e.V. to interested purchasers, developers, project managers and obsolescence managers on Thursday, the 10th of November during the 3rd Obsolescence Day taking place at electronica 2016 in Munich. Two lectures will be the focus of

the action day on November 10th. At the exhibitor forum in hall B5, booth 343, the COG members Dr. Wolfgang Heinbach (pcn global) and Axel Wagner (Würth Elektronik eiSos) will present the smartPCN- standard 2.0 at 12.30pm, a revolutionary tool developed by a COG working group, which guarantees a drastic reduction of manual efforts when working with

Product Change Notifications (PCN) of all kinds. The innovative XML- based machine-readable smartPCN communication format has a universal and flexible structure allowing automated handling of change notifications over the entire supply chain. Increasing obsolescence risks in

complex network structures will be the topic of the lecture “Industrial loT/Industry 4.0 – Risk assessment of smart factories” held by COG chairman, Ulrich Ermel, taking place at 14.20pm at the entrance area west (EW.312). Interested parties can obtain

detailed information at the booths of the 15 COG member companies. Hall B5 Stand 343

QUARTZ CRYSTALS AND OSCILLATORS

Euroquartz will show its latest quartz crystal and oscillator products. The company’s most recent introductions include 14-pin DIL (dual- in-line) military specificationoscillators, ultra- miniature low power oscillators, low profile differential output crystal oscillators and micro electromechanical system (MEMS) filters. A new range of 8-pin DIL military

specification oscillators will be launched at Electronica and the company is publishing a new 8-page quick reference oscillator guide. Housed in industry standard 14-pin DIL

AVNET TO DELIVER IOT AND AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT SHOWCASE

Avnet Silica will showcase its advanced solutions for the Internet of Things (IOT) and automotive development. The company will present three demonstrations that highlight its Visible Things IoT platform. Key features of this solution include embedded vision, security, cognitive analytics and application-specific elements aimed at industrial markets. On show for the first time will be a brand new gateway product from the company focused on the industrial

space, and a security architecture that delivers enterprise-grade security from the IP network core all the way to smart sensor configurations at the network edge – including low-power non-IP-based sensors. The third demonstration, an embedded vision system, combines image capture from low-cost non-intelligent sensors with high-end cognitive analytics in the cloud, to deliver a combination of real-time analysis and long-term business intelligence. Featured in the automotive area in Hall A6, Booth 127, Avnet Silica’s automotive offering encompasses a

broad range of solutions from both established market leaders and technology pioneers – including gesture control, embedded vision, in-vehicle networking, and gateway products. The company’s automotive showcase at electronica 2016 will highlight the next revolution in this growing

industry, and show how customers can stay ahead of the curve in fast-developing areas such as autonomous vehicles, the connected car, security and eMobility. The industry today is characterised by a rapidly increasing speed of innovation, driven by consumers’ desire for new features such as upgradeable cars, shared mobility and on-demand services. Market disruption is further fuelled by the emergence of new business models and market players – such as Uber and Google – changing the competitive landscape and diversifying the automotive revenue stream. In addition to its two main application priorities for the show, the company will show a broad range of its

development boards and design tools. Hall A6 Stand 127

packages, the company’s new EQXO- 1000BMK and EQXO-3000BMK clock oscillators incorporate a custom-designed quartz crystal and a CMOS/TTL compatible hybrid circuit on a ceramic substrate. Half size versions – EQXO-2000BMK – based on 8-pin DIL packages will be launched at Electronica. Hall B5 stand 529

Elatec RFID Systems, a specialist in RFID reader and writer systems will showcase its wide range of multi-frequency and multi- standard components for over 60 radio- identification technologies. Demonstration of its TWN4 MultiTech 2 BLE read/write module, which enables integration of Bluetooth functionalities, is set to be a particular highlight. The company offers its TWN4 MultiTech TechTracer Kit, and Software Development Kits through to the actual RFID reader/writer devices. The devices are available as plug-and-play desktop card readers.
