ENCLOSURES
impact and ingress protection ratings, such as SOLID-BOX (IP 66, IP 67, IK 08), are more than capable of handling HVAC, detection, measurement and RF duties in control rooms and service corridors. Enclosures like these are called upon to protect critical safety and security electronics so tamperproof Torx screws are a must. As are a wide range of installation options, such as mounting points on the rear to match the hole patterns of VESA MIS-D 75/100.
Wall-mounted control units in public areas should ideally be slim and subtle, blending in perfectly with a wide range of surroundings. As the Regency dandy Beau Brummell once quipped, “To be truly elegant, one should not be noticed.”
If that sounds like a contradiction in terms, then perhaps SMART-PANEL might go some way to explaining the thinking. These wall-mounted housings for touch screen controllers are very understated thanks to their slim profile and narrow frame, but this discretion serves to underpin and strengthen their visual appeal. SMART-PANEL is designed to fit standard cavity wall boxes. Screwless assembly speeds up installation, enhances aesthetics
and deters tampering. The enclosures can be opened using a special tool set (accessory).
Network nodes call for something larger, such as the curved NET-BOX (IP 65) for wall-mounted or desktop building management electronics. Connectors and interfaces are concealed under the front lid. The simple three-point wall-mounting system means there’s no need to open the main electronics section, only the front lid has to be refitted.
Easy installation is also a vital consideration for sensor enclosures because large buildings are likely to have a great many of them. This requirement has given rise to models such as MINI-DATA-BOX and EASYTEC. Both have flanges for swift installation using either cable ties or screws. MINI-DATA- BOX is also available without flanges, making it even smaller than the flanged version. MINI-DATA-BOX also proves that even the smallest enclosures can still be beautiful. The ‘diamond cut’ lid bevelling sets it apart from the herd, but maintains the understatement required of a standard housing. Aesthetics are becoming more important for enclosures, which is why a shared design language matters so much. Housings fitted
to walls should visually match those on desks, especially in open-plan buildings where one space flows into another. PROTEC with its angled and recessed front operating panel is equally at home on desks or walls. Three versions offer the choice of a deeply recessed interface area, a closed recess or an extended cover. The latter two variants provide more space for components.
Some people might imagine that looks don’t matter when it comes to ubiquitous DIN rail enclosures tucked away in cabinets. OKW takes a different view. The latest addition to its RAILTEC B range provides an attractive solution for standalone devices that do not require multiple terminations.
These space-saving enclosures for TH35 rails or direct wall mounting feature a flat design with a recessed control panel for displays, membrane keypads or decor foils. The ends are closed for mounting USB, D-sub or power supply connections.
