Specifying electronic enclosures for today’s smart building management systems
Today’s futuristic buildings are now smarter than ever; the requirement for greater energy efficiency and better security in the built environment is driving demand for advanced automation.
T
he global market for building automation systems is expected to reach $197.5 billion in just eight years, a compound annual growth rate of 11.2%, forecast analysts at Custom Market Insights. Sophisticated building automation devices require tough plastic enclosures that are elegant but discreet, versatile yet specialised, readily available as
standard, and yet easily customisable. They must house sensors, network nodes, touch screens, keypads and displays in a challenging variety of settings. Enclosure manufacturers such as OKW have been quick to respond with a succession of new models, not least because some of the high-grade plastic housings that meet the demands of smart
factories are equally at home in upscale residential, office and retail/leisure property. OKW’s Marketing Director Robert Cox said “Standard housings for building services electronics now look anything but ‘standard’. There are so many off-the-shelf models to choose from. This reduces the amount of customisation needed.”
