DISTRIBUTION

Balancing commercial and environmental concerns for electronics customers in the UK and the EU

By John Bowman, Marketing Director, Anglia Components E

lectronics designers and purchasers are constantly striving to reduce costs without sacrificing product performance or quality. Today, because of conflict and geopolitical tensions they also have to consider the security of their supply chain. Then there is the increasing awareness and commitment to an environmentally sustainable future. All of these often-conflicting factors mean that innovative, responsible distributors have had to take a fresh look at their approach to the market and the services they offer.

At Anglia, we have built a reputation for customer service over 50 years which means that we are the UK’s primary independent authorised distributor. For us, service starts with a large, available, UK-based inventory, balanced across all types of electronic components from industry-leading non-competing franchises. This reduces the number and cost of our customers’ purchasing transactions. The breadth and depth of stock minimises the need for back orders or placing multiple orders on multiple vendors.

Enabling customers to accelerate time to market with innovative and cost-effective solutions is a key aspect of Anglia’s technical support service. Our support includes the Ezysample service that delivers many thousands of components each year completely free of charge, expert technical advice from well-trained product specialists,

and ‘at the bench’ guidance from our industry leading engineers.

Anglia has a large UK based engineering team, and we believe in getting to know our customers, by listening to our customers we are then able to continuously improve our value to them.

To simplify procurement, our UK inventory and pricing information on our online ordering service ‘Anglia Live’ website is truly live and shows actual real-time stock levels. Information on future stock levels reflecting shipments expected from our extensive range of suppliers, combined with one of the industry’s most comprehensive parametric search engines, makes Anglia Live a formidable tool for our customers. Recently, and with the encouragement and full backing of our principal suppliers, Anglia opened up the Anglia Live eCommerce platform to Europe, and now offers a rapid one or two-day delivery service for European customers via its UK distribution centre. Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) and shipped by FedEx through its Paris hub, with invoicing available in multiple currencies, orders that are placed up to 17:00 (CET) Monday to Thursday and 12:30 (CET) on Friday are despatched same day. There is no minimum order value and DDP delivery is free for orders over €50/$60, orders below these values incur a €20/$30 service charge.

Anglia Live customers have full access to a

comprehensive parametric search engine, industry standard cross-reference database and up to date product change or termination notifications (PCN / PTN). Furthermore, a host of other digital tools to assist purchasing professionals and design engineers are also available on the site such as BOM+ which can fully cost and cross refer a bill of materials in under two minutes. Products are supplied with full lot traceability back to the original manufacturer’s pack, this is also supported for broken pack quantities such as cut tape and ready reel formats.

Another benefit of the Anglia Live platform for both UK and EU customers is sustainability; shipping goods from our UK distribution centre to mainland Europe customers produces seven times less CO2 versus shipping the same goods from the US. Sticking with the environmental theme, Anglia has also changed to using plain, recyclable packaging and paper sealing tape, in standard size options. This reduces infill packaging, and waste in general, and customers can even reuse the boxes if they wish since they are un- branded. By consolidating our logistic services with FedEx, we have reduced the number of lorries on the road, and we are employing energy saving smart building practices at our UK headquarters including offsetting our CO2 emissions through trusted local and global programmes.
