PRODUCTS EDITOR’S CHOICE CONNECTORS HANDLE DIFFERENT CABLE SIZES

A key addition to binder’s RD24 connector portfolio has been announced. The UL approved Series 692/693 connectors incorporate a “Vario” cable outlet designed to accommodate cables with diameters from 7 to 17mm.

The RD24 connectors will suit

applications including power connections for pressure and temperature transducers, welding equipment, CCTV, security installations and control systems. According to binder UK managing

director, David Phillips, users would previously have needed three different connector sizes to handle this range of cable diameters. “Now, thanks to the “Vario” outlet, just one

connector will do the job,” he said. “Our design features an onion ring seal which has multiple, separable seals which, when separated, fits various cable diameters.” Two specifications are available – 4 pole (16A, 400V) and 7 pole (10A, 250V) – both of which have a pre- engaging earth contact. binder is

offering male and female versions for in-line mating or connection to standard panel-mount receptacles. Manufactured from durable PBT

with silver plated brass and bronze pins and contacts respectively, the new RD24 connectors are protected to IP67 when mated and locked. Options are available for screw, crimp and solder termination and contact resistance is ≤5mΩ. binder has designed these RD24 connectors to operate across a wide temperature range and more than 500 mating cycles. www.binder- connector.co.uk

OSCILLOSCOPE OFFERS ANALOGUE/DIGITAL CHANNEL FLEXIBILITY

According to Tektronix, it has broken through the innovation barrier with the introduction of the 5 Series MSO mixed signal oscilloscope. To better meet modern electronics design challenges, the 5 Series MSO midrange oscilloscope has a host of innovations including FlexChannel technology that allows 4, 6 or 8 analogue channels and up to 64 digital channels, integrated protocol analysis and signal generator, a new 12-bit signal acquisition system, a high-definition capacitive touch display, and an intuitive Direct Access user interface. As embedded systems become more sophisticated, engineers developing these systems require more from

their oscilloscopes. To effectively and efficiently characterise and debug these more complex systems, designers need to look at a larger number and a wider variety of signals than in the past. At the same time, usability and fast time-to-insight are critical to staying on time and budget. The 5 Series MSO oscilloscope is said to offer the versatility and deep signal insight needed to meet these challenges. As systems become more complex and debug problems become more difficult, engineers are finding they

need more than four analogue channels – the number available on most mid-range oscilloscopes today. Oscilloscopes have historically been defined with fixed configurations: the user had to decide up front how many analogue channels and whether they want zero or a fixed number of digital channels. Unlike ordinary scopes, the 5 Series MSO offers models with

four, six, or eight FlexChannels. By default, the input is a TekVPI+ connector that accepts all TekVPI analogue probes, but when the new TLP058 Logic Probe is connected the input is converted to 8 digital channels. The user can add as many logic probes as they need, enabling anywhere from 8 to 64 digital channels. The oscilloscope also features a 15.6inch capacitive touch

high definition (1920x1080 px) display. www.tektronix.com

SIMPLIFYING IOT

Stream Technologies and Laird have announced that Laird’s Sentrius RG1xx Long-Range Wireless Area Network (LoRaWAN) gateway is pre-configured out of the box to function with Stream’s LoRaWAN network server and IoT-X platform. Mass production and availability of the RG1xx family in Laird global distribution channels is scheduled to begin in late June 2017. Through this partnership, Stream

and Laird demonstrate their commitment to simplifying the IoT for enterprises and helping companies deploy LoRaWAN networks faster and more efficiently. “Pre-integrating configurations for

Stream’s LoRaWAN network server with Laird’s Sentrius RG1xx gateway at the point of manufacture and providing free trial access to Stream’s IoT-X platform for enterprise adopters of Laird’s gateway, will help organisations simplify their deployment of LoRaWAN networks,” said Scott Lordo, Senior VP of Laird’s Connectivity business. From the same IoT-X account,

customers can also subscribe to Stream’s Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) services. www.lairdtech.com www.stream-technologies.com

Analog Devices (ADI) has introduced a series of wideband, passive, in-phase quadrature RF mixers. Supporting the entire 2.5 to 42 GHz spectrum, the HMC819x mixers are said to offer benefits over alternative discrete options and are suitable for industrial applications such as test and measurement and defence electronics that require wideband support. Over 10 discrete components would be required to cover this same frequency range, compared to what can be achieved with ADI’s three new devices. www.analog.com

QSEVEN MODULE ADDED TO PRODUCT PORTFOLIO

SECO’s Q7-B03 is a Qseven Rel. 2.1 compliant module based on the Intel Atom E39xx family, Intel Celeron N3350 and Intel Pentium N4200 SoCs. This solution can merge its high graphics performance and extreme temperature with good power efficiency and is available from Rutronik. The graphics of the Q7-B03 module include

an integrated Gen9-LP graphics controller with 18 execution units, as well as 4K HW decoding and encoding of HEVC (H.265), H.264, VP8, SVC and MVC. It comes with a dual channeled soldered down DDR3L-1866 memory of up to 8GB and 2x external SATA Gen3 channel, SD
