PRODUCTS AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRONICS BATTERY TESTING
Keysight Technologies has launched a suite of test and measurement solutions for the rapidly growing battery, HEV/EV and HEMS markets. The global electric vehicle market—
ranging from mild hybrids to battery electric vehicles and HEMS—are fast growing, with a large number of new application areas and implementation characteristics. Based on these dynamics, many cell and battery manufacturers are facing challenges to deal with the exponential demand for costly, high- power/high-voltage cells in the 300 V range. This is compared to the traditional, more cost-efficient 12 V cells. Keysight’s suite of electric vehicle and
HEMS solutions provide design and test engineers with what are said to be powerful, versatile and efficient solutions that will help drive their innovations to market faster, and at a lower cost. The range includes: EV1003A Power Converter Test Solution; RP7900 Series Regenerative Power System; BT2191A Self-Discharge Measurement (SDM) System; and BT2152A Self-Discharge Analyzer (SDA). Between them, these products offer high-power/high-voltage power convertor testing, regenerative power systems and Li-Ion cell test systems.

LED CONTROLLER ELIMINATES TRADE-OFF T
he MAX20078 synchronous buck, high-brightness LED
controller from Maxim Integrated Products, can provide both fast response time and low electromagnetic interference (EMI) for exterior LED lighting and improved safety applications. Suitable for matrix lighting designs, the LED controller allows designers to achieve high performance, ease of design, and fast time-to-market. In advanced lighting
applications such as matrix lighting, LED drivers and controllers have challenges when switching LEDs at high speeds which can cause overshoots and
undershoots in current. These applications are not easy to design, as they require numerous LEDs located in a densely- concentrated area and EMI can be especially difficult to eliminate. The MAX20078 provides ultra- fast response times enabling
smoother transient responses. While eliminating the need for external compensation components, it also offers a wide dimming ratio and features both integrated fault protection and monitoring circuitry. The MAX20078 allows for fast LED switching and low EMI so that designers no longer need to sacrifice one for the other. These benefits, along with simplified design and flexible switching frequencies, allow designers to achieve
faster time-to-market.

MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENT IS COMPLETELY PORTABLE
The recently launched Yokogawa DL350 ScopeCorder is said to be the most comprehensive fully portable measuring instrument available for capturing, displaying, recording and analysing a variety of electrical and physical parameters in industry sectors including automotive. Like other models in Yokogawa’s ScopeCorder family, the DL350 combines features of a general-purpose
oscilloscope and those of a high-performance data acquisition recorder in a single, portable instrument. It can add high levels of precision and accuracy to field measurements, isolated inputs for measurements at high voltage levels, and long-memory capabilities that allow long-term recording for hours or even days. Another key feature is plug-in modularity, which allows the ScopeCorder to be configured to suit a
variety of user applications. Whether carrying out straightforward high-precision voltage measurements or handling a blend of signals coming from such things as current probes, temperature sensors, strain gauges, and serial buses, the DL350 can deliver, without extra boxes or cables. This flexible input capability is achieved by incorporating two slots which are populated with any of 18
TDK Corporation has presented the ACT1210L common-mode choke – said to be the world's smallest of its type for automotive Ethernet applications. Its dimensions are just 3.2 mm x 2.5 mm x 2.5 mm, making it half the size of the existing ACT45L choke which measures in at 4.5 mm x 3.2 mm x 2.8 mm. Series production of the new common-mode chokes starts in June 2017.

different types of user-swappable input modules. The DL350 offers compatibility with many existing ScopeCorder input modules and thereby provides a potential cost saving to existing users. When the DL350 is combined with the high-speed
isolation and CAN bus modules, engineers have a tool to measure EV vehicle drive train efficiency and performance. It will measure the fluctuation of the input/output voltage of the drive train inverter, trend speed, accelerating and braking rates translated by CAN communications simultaneously and continuously for up to 2.5 hours at a sample rate of 200KS/s. Add the optional GPS unit to add co-ordinate information to correlate test-track location and measurement data.

Connected cars utilise a large number of wireless applications that must reliably function in parallel. That is where T&M solutions from Rohde & Schwarz come in. The company offers test solutions for the development and production of automotive radar sensors used in driver assistance systems. One highlight is the new R&S ATS1000 antenna test system for antennas up into the highest millimeterwave range. The system can be used as a test solution for automated antenna pattern and power measurements on radar sensors, a solution that delivers precise 3D far-field characterisation thanks to the R&S QuickStep test automation software.

T&M SOLUTIONS FOR CONNECTED CARS AND AUTONOMOUS DRIVING Another example is the R&S FSW85 high-end
signal and spectrum analyser, which features a frequency range of 2 Hz to 85 GHz, and is suitable for analysing automotive radar sensors designed for frequency bands around 24 GHz and 79 GHz. With a bandwidth of 2 GHz, it demodulates and analyses automotive radar signals using the R&S FSW-K6C analysis software for radar signals. Rohde & Schwarz also offers a universal system
for testing vehicle keys and their electronic control units within the shielded environment of its TS7124 chamber. The company also has test solutions for networked vehicles and V2X and for vehicle bus systems and ECUs.
