obtained by applying full current to the LED at a reduced duty cycle. In order to obtain 50%LED brightness, full current is applied at a 50%duty cycle (50%on, 50%off). This pulsing signal is also forwarded to the gate of the LED driverMOSFET resulting in a fast flickering light source.
R
icoh Europe B.V. Semiconductor Support Centre has launched a
constant current LED driver controller IC designed to eliminate flickering and EMI noise issues. The R1580 has a specific DIMinput pin to connect a signal for dimming the LED
Modulation (PWM) dimming i s Traditional PulseWidth brightness level.
When using such light source for recording a video or taking photos, this flickering effect will be visible and decrease the quality of the footage. In addition, the PWM controlled LED driverMOSFET also causes EMI noise, possibly affecting other sensitive electronic circuits. The R1580 however has a different approach. The PWMinput signal connected to the DIMpin is
internally converted into a linear DC TROLLERFORLEDLIGHTING
voltage applied to the gate of the LED driverMOSFET, in this way eliminating both flickering and EMI noise and resulting in high quality footage.
This solution has a wide dimming range; from100%to 1.0%or even to 0.5%brightness level, whereas
conventional products can dimdown to 5%. Onemajor advantage of dimming to a 0.5%brightness level when used in an RGB LED
configuration, is the extension of the colour temperature range. The light source is able to showmore colour variations. Also, when dimming to a minimumthe LED will not simply turn off at the 5%dimming level but continues to dimto 0.5%. ww

PARTNERSHIP ANNOUNCED FOR OPEN STANDARD WIRELESS LIGHTING CONTROL
Daintree Networks and Osram Sylvania have announced that they are to collaborate on developing out-of- the-box wirelessly controlled LED fixtures. The Osram Connected Lighting Module (CLM) is certified to work with Daintree Networks ControlScope open networked wireless control solution, which further expands the availability of open standards-based controllable luminaires and paves the way for the Enterprise Internet of Things (E-IoT). The CLM allows LED fixtures to connect to building control systems certified to the ZigBee Home
Automation standard. Daintree Networks' ControlScope delivers open networked wireless control and sensing for lighting, HVAC, plug load, space utilisation, and many more applications, providing users with the flexibility to expand the scope and scale of their smart building deployments over time. "The OSRAM Connected Lighting Module is one of the first devices to enable 'out-of-the-box' wireless,
controllable LED light fixtures," said Tom Shottes, Head of Digital Systems, Americas, Osram Sylvania. "The module can be inserted into any fixtures that have a driver capable of providing 12V auxiliary output. It instantly makes them smart and wirelessly
controlled.Through our collaboration with Daintree Networks, customers now have one device with built in standard wireless controls. It's a tremendous step towards simplifying wireless fixture integration." Danny Yu, President of Daintree Networks said, "Wireless interoperability across devices is critical if we are
to enable truly smart buildings and protect the customer's investment in the Enterprise Internet of Things. Industry leaders have realised it is critical to support open systems to monitor and control lighting and other applications in the enterprise and the shift is underway. Daintree has built one of the leading open networked wireless controls ecosystem in the intelligent building industry and our partnership with Osram is one example of a growing number of major organisations working together in the best interests of the customer."

The company’s 3030CLU(AM) Series with a compact size (3.0x3.0x0.8mm) and a wide viewing angle of 120° is offere d in a golden hig h reflective package. Using a ceramic substrate results in lower costs and a low thermal resistance of less than 7⁰C/W for an optimised heat management. A further benefit is a junction temperature of up to 150⁰C (Tj150⁰C) and still keepi g good performance.
