ADVERTORIALS Omron adds two new MOSFET relays
Omron Electronic Components Europe has expanded its extensive range of MOSFET relays with two new devices. The new Omron G3VM- 401 and G3VM-601 offer high dielectric strength and high operating temperatures for applica- tions in electric meters and industrial control. The new G3VM-41UR pot is a highly responsive
device offering low on-resistance and output capacitance in ultra-com- pact VSON packaging, aimed at test and measurement applications especially ATE. Operating temperatures can be a particular challenge for designers of electricity meters as these units have to be sealed to prevent tampering. The new Omron G3VM-401 and G3VM-601 devices address this issue as they can withstand ambient temperatures of up to 110°C. They also offer a high dielectric strength of 5,000V rms AC. The devices are offered in both surface mount and through hole form, with SPST-NO contacts. They are power efficient, with a low trigger current of just 2mA. The G3VM-401 can handle a load current of up to 400V at 120mA and the G3VM-601 can handle up to 600V at 90mA.

Long-term support for parallel PCI bus to remain assured
At Embedded World 2023, EKF Elektronik (Hall 1 / Booth 1-406) will be launching two new 3U CompactPCI processor boards with 11th generation Intel Core and Xeon processors (codename Tiger Lake H45). The boards will be available in two variants: the first is a Compact- PCI Serial design, the second supports both CompactPCI Classic and CompactPCI PlusIO. The latter supports the classic parallel PCI bus, for which there
are still numerous COTS and proprietary expansion cards available today. This enables developers of CompactPCI-based systems to implement any CompactPCI system design and secure their investment in this PICMG standard, which was launched in 1999, long into the future. The new boards will be available until at least 2032 – just like the existing CompactPCI CPU boards with 7th generation Intel Xeon E3 v6 processors (codename Kaby Lake), which the company also offers for all three CompactPCI sub- specifications.
Long-term security for existing investments
“Support for the PCI bus is essential for older CompactPCI system designs, yet some vendors are withdrawing from this market. The announcement that EKF Elektronik will continue to support the PCI bus for new CompactPCI designs therefore sends an important message to many users: They can safeguard their investment in this legacy technology for many more years, continue to upgrade their system designs with the latest processor technology, and reap all the benefits that come with it,” explains Manuel Murer, Business Development Manager at EKF Elektronik. Advantages of such upgrades include higher energy efficiency, higher processor-integrated security and computing power, up-to-date software support, and above all support for artificial intelligence and the latest graphics features to provide the best possible user experience. As 11th Gen Intel Core and Xeon processors no longer support PCI natively, EKF Elektronik has installed a software-transparent PCIe-to-PCI bridge on the processor boards with CompactPCI Classic and CompactPCI PlusIO support. This allows developers to seamlessly port existing applications to the new boards.
New J2 for PlusIO
CompactPCI PlusIO users will find a new J2 connector on the new CompactPCI PlusIO (PICMG 2.30) boards, which is footprint-compatible with the CompactPCI Classic (PICMG 2.0) specification. This change was necessary because the J2 connector specifically developed for PlusIO has been discontinued. But there is no need to redesign the backplane. The only restriction is that high-speed backplane transfer is limited to 2.5 GT/s for PCIe Gen 1, and 1.5 Gbit/s for SATA. Depending on the application and system, it is possible to use the full bandwidth. The CompactPCI‘s PCI bus can be used in the usual bandwidth up to 133Mbyte/s.

METCASE aluminium electronic enclosures are now available with an elegant new anodised-style powder coating that provides a cost-ef- fective alternative to the traditional anodising.
This smart new custom paint finish gives the enclosure front/rear panels an anodised look at a price that is viable for low-volume cus- tom orders (where the panels are to be punched and printed to cus- tomer specifications as well). For larger volumes, traditional anodising remains the best cost option.
The new powder coating dries in a deep matt finish (<5 GU), giving the panels a luxurious satin feel. It is resistant to weathering and chem- icals, and there are no toxic ingredients.
This thermosetting resin is applied in a thickness of 60-100 microns and cured at 200° C for 10 minutes to achieve a perfect matt finish.
The new anodised-look powder coating is the latest new paint finish to be added to METCASE’s now 42-strong range of ‘always in stock’ custom colours.
Other customisation services offered by METCASE include bespoke sizes, CNC machining, and photo-quality digital printing of legends, logos and graphics.

TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION
Nothing is as small – Nothing responds as fast. Semitec’s Thermal Sensor from ATC Semitec
When an application requires a temperature sensor with rapid response times - the Semitec FT micro thin film SMD thermistor, available from ATC Semitec, can be regarded as the gold standard, outperforming similar products due to their miniature size, exceptionally fast response
time and high heat resistance. Our FT is a unique ultra- thin NTC thermistor sensor mounted on a 150 micron ceramic substrate. Its unique construction and miniature format (size down to 0201) enables placement of the FT onto a heater or power component surface. Quickly sensing very rapid rates of temperature change (Tc <0.5 sec) they can offer engineers the very best chance of sensing, controlling and protecting their application. The FT is widely used in personal care, glucose monitoring patches, security devices, in-cell battery applications. ATC Semitec is the UK’s leading thermal component distributor, contact us for advice and samples.
