Embedded world: the place to be for the embedded community
In March, Nuremberg will once again become the meeting place for the global embedded community. The entire industry will meet at the embedded world Exhibition&Conference from March 14-16, 2023. No one who needs to know what moves the embedded industry can afford to miss this date.

y adopting the claim “embedded. responsible. sustainable.” the 2023 embedded world trade fair and conferences will focus on key topics for the future of the embedded industry. Which factors define a responsible approach to AI? What is the background to the EU Cyber Resilience Act? How do embedded systems help make the digital world more sustainable and how can embedded systems themselves be made more sustainable?
Sustainability: The topic of the century
The NürnbergMesse is addressing the issue by developing group-wide sustainability strategies. Since 2016, for example, only green electricity has been used in the exhibition halls at embedded world and almost all halls have now converted to LED lighting. And when it comes to catering, attention is being paid to the deployment of sustainable packaging solutions and use of regional products. The event already employs a high percentage of reusable system stands and from 2024 onwards sustainably certified exhibition stands will be introduced. Furthermore, the event team is currently looking into eco-certified carpeting and switching to recyclable paper for ticketing. “Looked at individually, these are all small steps, but taken together, they pave the way toward more sustainable event execution,” emphasizes Executive Director Benedikt Weyerer, and adds “we constantly ask ourselves whether we can’t use a more sustainable substitute product.”
Conference program at embedded world
The two conferences, which take place in parallel to embedded world, make it the perfect place to develop specialist knowledge and to discuss current topics relating to embedded systems. Over 200 hours of concentrated expertise from the embedded community awaits visitors.

sessions and 19 classes from more than 360 submissions. 200 speakers from 26 countries will share their knowledge. “At embedded world we bring together many different and future-oriented facets of system development. The lectures and the class on ‘embedded Rust’ and ‘tinyML’ are proof of this for me,” emphasizes Chairman Prof. Sikora. The three keynotes also capture the contemporary zeitgeist. Daniel Cooley, CTO of Silicon Labs, will talk about “Charting the Connected Future” while Prof. Dr.-Ing. Albert Heuberger, from Fraunhofer IIS, will address the impact of chip design and production on Europe’s technological sovereignty. Furthermore, Prof. Ali Hessami, Chair IEEE P7000 Technology Ethics Standard, will pose ethical questions related to AI and autonomous systems. This is a current and very relevant topic, because related EU certification is currently under discussion.
“The display community is already looking forward anxiously to Nuremberg to experience innovations at first hand and to forge new contacts. The focus will also be on the electronic displays area, because after all - seeing is believing,” says edC Chairman Prof. Dr. Karlheinz Blankenbach.
Meeting place for a “cool industry” The embedded award, the exhibitor forums and the embedded world Student Day are all elements that go to make this trade fair exciting for the event manager and the entire team. “When, on the third day of embedded, in addition to the usual business activity in the halls, more than 1,000 students can be seen roaming the exhibition grounds, you can already get a glimpse of the future of the industry,” says Weyerer enthusiastically. Since 2019, there has also been an embedded world start-up area. One of the area’s first participants was a software start-up from France, which actually won the embedded award in the start-up category that year. “Last year, the managing director of the company called me to say that embedded world is the most important trade fair for him, because he made his first business contacts with a future investor here, and his business is now ramping up,” says Weyerer, “That’s great feedback and an incentive for us to expand this kind of format.”
