NEWS EDITOR’S CHOICE E-FEB17-ATC SEMITEC NEW :E-MAY16-ATC SEMITEC 26/01/2017 12 IN A TIGHT FIT? FIT THE JT

FMicro NTC Miniature Thermistor Sensors

ATC Semitec’s Fmicro miniature thermistor sensor has been designed primarily for use in medical applications.

Utilising thin-film technology combined with laser-trimming techniques, the Fmicro thermistor sensor is only 0.5mm diameter by 2.3mm long. It is designed around one of our smallest FT series thermistors, encapsulated in a polyimide tube and fitted with 38AWG insulated leads.

Semitec’s JT thermistor at only 0.5mm at its sensing tip makes it amongst the thinnest available world-wide, and therefore intrinsically suitable for many medical applications including surface skin sensing, wearable medical devices and battery packs. Laminated between two polymer layers ensures a flexible yet resilient sensor.

They have an extremely fast thermal response time within air temperature sensors, with temperature ranges between -50°C and 125°C. In addition, these thermistors have excellent electrical insulation and can be safely used in environments where they might come into contact with electrodes. For ease of manufacture these are available in lengths from 25mm to

100mm, and have R25 values of 10kΩ and 100kΩ, with 1% tolerances as standard. Quite simply, the JT’s can be used where other thermistors are just too big, too

inflexible or simply too slow. The JT range forms part of the extensive range of thermal components from

leading innovative suppliers available from ATC Semitec. The company highlights, it offers comprehensive technical advice and bespoke customer solutions. www.atcsemitec.co.uk

E-FEB16-011-EUROQUARTZ_Layout 1 26/01/2016 14:58 Page 1 IMPLANTABLE QUARTZ CRYSTALS

Frequency control specialist, Euroquartz has announced the availability of new medical-implantable-grade quartz crystals from Statek, that are optimised for wireless RF transceiver applications using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or Medical Implant Communications Service (MICS) specifications. The CX16, CX18 and CX20 series are small devices operating in the 16MHz

and above frequency range requested by the BLE transceiver ICs. When miniaturisation is paramount Statek’s low profile CX16 AT quartz crystal is well suited, measuring 2.0 x 1.2mm and just 0.43mm high. Offering frequencies from 24 to 50MHz, the CX16’s resonator is manufactured using state-of-the- art photolithographic and chemical milling processes then sealed in a ceramic package for high stability and low ageing. Even smaller is the CX18 series from the company measuring 1.6 x 1 x

0.38mm and offering frequencies from 30 to 50MHz while the larger CX20 telemetry crystals have a footprint of 2.5mm x 1.2mm and a height of 0.5mm with a frequency range from 16 to 50MHz. www.euroquartz.co.uk

The Fmicro is accurate to ±0.2K at 37°C and is small enough to be incorporated within a catheter probe for internal body temperature measurement. Operating temperature range is -10/+70°C.

IIOT ARCHITECTURE COLLABORATION

Yokogawa Electric Corporation is to join with Microsoft Corporation, FogHorn Systems, Inc., Bayshore Networks, Inc., and Telit IoT Platforms, LLC in a mass technology integration, to deliver new services in an industrial IoT (IIoT) architecture. The company claims, this

architecture, will help it to improve its business model, offering a wider business scope,

enabling it to help customers run their businesses more efficiently. Through this architecture,

business process applications can be configured to support the use of “plug-and-play” sensors, by providing the ability to automatically detect sensors and other instruments connected to the network. www.yokogawa.com
