ENCLOSURES
Advanced aluDOOR’s hinged lid opens 100° for easier access, and can be specified with or without a recess for a membrane keypad or product label. The lid screws and threaded inserts are A2 stainless steel for added protection against corrosion.
Fitting the lid is a swift and simple process. The lid with integrated hinge pin is pushed into place then secured with two tamperproof Torx T25 (M5) screws. Once closed, the lid is then locked down with two more T25 screws. All the lid and mounting screws are concealed beneath smart extruded aluminium trims. And while aluCASE comes with a recessed lid, aluDOOR goes a step further by offering either a recessed or unrecessed lid as standard. However, two aluCASE sizes are available with a transparent lid as standard – something that aluDOOR has still yet to offer.
Security is another important consideration. It’s one thing being able to protect your electronics from the worst that heavy industry or Mother Nature can throw at them – but tampering is another matter entirely. Industrial electronic enclosures (such as aluCASE) that offer locks are a boon in this respect. But what if the design aesthetics of your application call for something radically different? What if you need circles and curves instead of the usual rectangular plan sizes found in most industrial electronic enclosures? This can be a more challenging requirement than it sounds because industrial enclosure design has been quite conservative for many years.
And with good reason. Enclosures need flat sides to enable the mounting of cable glands or connectors. Rounded sides throw a curveball into the equation. So only comparatively recently has there been a ‘round’ standard diecast electronic enclosure – aluDISC. And even then, it is not truly circular because of the aforementioned need for at least one flat side.
Instead, aluDISC uses ‘round’ design language to distract the eye from its two flat surfaces. At the centre of aluDISC is a big circular (and recessed) operating area that immediately draws the eye. This effect is further enhanced by the sweeping curves of the two long sides. It’s effectively a wristwatch shape: ROLEC has used the same design techniques that watch designers employ when they need to attach a flat-ended watch strap to a rounded dial. And diecast aluDISC has proved to be so successful that ROLEC has now launched a plastic version – technoDISC – in a robust and UV-stable ASA/ polycarbonate blend.
No matter what standard enclosure you specify, it will almost certainly need customising. Rather than doing the machining and finishing yourself, it makes sense to
approach a single-source supplier that can do all the customisation work in-house so you receive the enclosures fully finished – ready for installation of your electronics. They arrive at Goods In and can go straight to your production line.
Typical customisation services include CNC machining, engraving and laser processing; powder coating and wet painting; digital printing of legends, logos and photo quality graphics; screen printing, and assembly of accessories such as front panels, mounting plates, support rails, terminal blocks, cable glands and blanking plugs.
