How to Check if Cooling Output inside Enclosures is Sufficient

Power Products offer Horizon Electronics Power Supplies in the UK

ower Products International have entered into a partnership arrangement with Horizon Electronics to offer a standard range (COTS) of power supplies for harsh environments. The TITAN 3G Series of factory configurable IP67 housed AC- DC power supplies offers 500 standard options which can be tailored to specific project requirements. Six DC output options are available, ranging between 12V and 60V, with continuous power ratings from 1200 to 8400 Watts. AC Input variants include 115V or 230V Single and Three Phase, with options for higher output power at 200/208V or 400V three phase. Complying with EN61000 EMC and UL/EN 60950 Safety specifications, the power supplies are fitted with I/O circuit breakers, current limiter, over/under voltage and over temperature protection. An operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C, altitude to 10,000 meters and high resilience to shock and vibration makes these power supplies entirely suitable for outdoor industrial, vehicular and field applications.

P

anufacturing automation systems are delicate and very expensive pieces of kit, which perform vital functions for the businesses they serve. The enclosures that protect them must have strictly controlled internal environments with interior temperatures that are carefully maintained within a few degrees.

electrical and electronic components operating within them. This requires careful control of the climate within the enclosure. Here, Jason Swann, Rittal Product Manager for Climate offers some practical tips on how to evaluate an existing enclosure climate control through a series of simple checks. Like all electrical equipment, drives create heat and they therefore have a major influence on the temperatures inside enclosures. Drives are often

- Advanced New Instrument Enclosures

ETCASE has launched its all new TECHNOMET range, a step forward in the design of standard desktop and portable instrument enclosures. These sophisticated aluminium housings are engineered to very fine tolerances in order to replicate the high quality aesthetics and ergonomics only usually seen on plastic enclosures.

M

TECHNOMET is available in eight standard sizes (ranging from 75 x 225 x 200 mm to 150 x 350 x 275 mm) and in two standard colours light grey or anthracite. All sizes are available with or without a tilt and swivel carry handle bar. 150 mm desktop models are supplied with recessed side handles. Prices start at £73.

The cases are supplied fully assembled. The stylish diecast front and rear bezels fit flush in the case body. Unique front and rear snap-on trims hide the front panel and case fixing screws, giving a modern screw-free look to the housings. A single PCB can be fitted to four M3 mounting pillars in the base panel, or multiple slide-in PCBs can be fitted to the chassis using accessory clip-in anti-vibration guides. Ventilation holes are provided as standard in the base and rear panels. All case panels are fitted with M4 earth studs for electrical continuity. Non-slip ABS feet are supplied fitted (with tilt feet on desktop versions). Anodised aluminium front panels are ordered separately.

Customising options for TECHNOMET include bespoke sizes; custom front panels; CNC punching, folding, milling, drilling and tapping; fixings and inserts; custom colours and finishes; digital printing of legends and logos.

quoted as having efficiency of 97 per cent, so one with a rated output of 150kW can produce as much as 4.5kW of heat.

As well as the heat loss inside the enclosure, ambient temperatures within a production facility will also have an impact on the temperatures that a drive is operating within.

A typical enclosure

climate control system is designed for an internal enclosure temperature of 35°C. This means that the performance of a cooling unit should be specified so that the average internal enclosure temperature of 35°C can be guaranteed under all load conditions and under all the ambient conditions that could be met at the machine’s location.
