BUT IT’S NOT JUST TECHNOLOGY FOR THE MILITARY
Nick Harper, managing director at ODU-UK explains the background to recent developments in two of the company’s product ranges, demonstrating that technology transfer can work both ways

ith the introduction of Ethernet-to- the-Factory (EttF) installations,
similar needs for high-speed data connections in a more rugged form were expressed by factory equipment OEM's. As a result, ODU has now accelerated its technology transfer with a major expansion of its existing modular connector range, ODU-MAC into three major variants, so as to provide the ultimate in connector pick'n'mix for the industrial or medical environment. No matter what you need to connect –
whether it's power, signals, high-speed data, pneumatics, fluids or fibre-optics – all can be incorporated together.
ODU-MAC SILVER-LINE The all-rounder for automatic docking - six different docking-frame types, each in customisable lengths, with multiple modules including 30 high-speed data options. This range of connectors are universally
applicable. The robust hybrid interface stands out owing to its high level of failure-safety and optional quick-change head solution with minimal maintenance requirements. High packing density and vibration resistance round off this high- performance package.
ODU-MAC WHITE-LINE The option for manual mating - the same technical performance as the Silver-Line, but in a multiple choice of metal and plastic housings, with fully non-magnetic versions available. Whether snap-In, spindle or lever locking, the ODU-MAC White-Line makes manual mating as simple as it is versatile. Ergonomic handling is guaranteed. This hybrid connector with its wide variety of modules from the ODU-MAC system offers custom solutions for your specific application.
ODU-MAC BLUE-LINE The simple hybrid connector solution for manual mating – this is the tool-free, clip-mounted version – ideal for on-site assembly. Loading and unloading of the

IT'S GOOD TO TALK The continuing development of both of these connector ranges has been as a result of close co-operation with the company’s major customers and responding to their needs. Ultimately, the experience and expertise of ODU design engineers produced a cost-effective solution. However, ideas such as these can only
come about via collaboration as equal partners. Suppliers such as ODU are experts in what they do, as such the company is a resource that should be more fully utilised in these lean times – so, if you are faced with a connector or packaging problem, then it’s good to talk?
