PRODUCTS EDITOR’S CHOICE MICROLEASE WINS HATRICK AWARD FOR GLOBAL RENTAL SERVICES

and measurement equipment, Frost & Sullivan presented the company with the award for the third time in a row, achieving recognition for adopting a strategy that is different from its key competitors. “By adopting a unique strategy,

M

icrolease, was presented with its third consecutive Company

of the Year award for the Global Rental and Leasing Services Market for Test and Measurement Equipment, at the Frost & Sullivan’s Growth, Innovation & Leadership Awards Banquet in London. Based on its recent analysis of the rental and leasing services market for test

Microlease has shown for the third year running that it is worthy of this award,” said Jessy Cavazos, industry director at Frost & Sullivan. “Microlease has achieved continued growth over the past few years, introducing new test equipment, used test equipment, and asset management services, which have proven to be instrumental in growing the business. Part of Microlease’s success lies with its large global footprint, enabling it to

deploy equipment with extreme efficiency.” Nigel Brown, CEO at Microlease

said: “We are ecstatic to receive a hat trick for the Company of the Year Award from such a prestigious company. At Microlease, we are constantly working with our customers to understand their requirements and strive to adapt to trends and global changes in the markets. We are continuing to expand and broaden our offerings around the world to help customers better manage their assets.” Frost & Sullivan’s Best Practices

CONTROL IC AND EVALUATION BOARD

A new 1700V SiC MOSFET has been released by Rohm that the company advises has been optimised for industrial applications, including manufacturing equipment and high-voltage general-purpose inverters. The SCT2H12NZ is claimed, provides the

CADENCE UNVEILS NEXT-GENERATION VIRTUOSO PLATFORM

Cadence Design Systems Inc. has released a new design platform that includes new technologies within its Virtuoso Analogue Design Environment (ADE). It also includes enhancements to its Virtuoso Layout Suite, aimed at automotive safety, medical device and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. This product suite has been developed to tackle the challenges that come as a result of new industry standards, advanced-node designs and the requirements for system design. Enhanced data handling is claimed to provide up to 20 times improvement in loading waveform databases in excess of 1GB and a 50 times improvement in versioning and loading set-up files into the environment. The suite’s key technologies include:  Virtuoso ADE Explorer: Enables fast and accurate real-time tuning of design specs, provides pass/fail datasheets and delivers a complete corners and Monte Carlo statistical environment for detecting and fixing variation problems

 Virtuoso ADE Assembler: Enables the analysis of designs under various process-voltage-temperature (PVT) combinations; also offers GUI-based verification plans so designers can easily create conditional and dependent simulations

 Virtuoso ADE Verifier: Provides a substantial technological advancement in analogue verification, offering an integrated dashboard that lets engineers easily verify that all of the blocks are contributing to the overall design specifications “The new Virtuoso ADE Verifier technology and the Virtuoso ADE Assembler technology run plan capability

make our design teams more productive,” said Yanqiu Diao, deputy general manager, Turing Processor business unit at HiSilicon Technologies Co. “Through our early use of the new Cadence Virtuoso ADE product suite, we’ve found that we can improve analogue IP verification productivity by approximately 30 percent and reduce verification issues by one-half,” Diao added. www.cadence.com

high breakdown voltage that is required for auxiliary power supplies in industrial equipment. Conduction loss is reduced by some 8 times over conventional silicon MOSFETs, contributing to greater energy efficiency; and combined with the company’s AC/DC converter control IC, designed specifically for SiC MOSFET drive (BD7682FJ- LB) will make it possible to maximise performance and improve efficiency by up to 6%. This allows smaller peripheral components to be used, leading to increased miniaturisation in the latest devices and systems. www.rohm.com

A fork plug for printed circuit boards has been custom designed by Multi-Contact. The lightweight but rugged connector can be used with power electronics modules such as inverters so that they can be quickly slid in and out of racks during maintenance. Developed in collaboration with a manufacturer of traction converters for use in the rail industry, the compact plug saves space, and enables modules to be swapped out, without the need for special tools. The vibration-resistant plug can be used in temperatures ranging from -550 www.multi-contact.com

NEW SCOPE OFFERING LONG SIGNAL VISUALISATION OFFERS STUDENTS HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE

A next generation basic oscilloscope has been introduced by Tektronix featuring one of the longest record lengths and largest displays in its class for faster signal evaluation and troubleshooting.

“The new TBS2000 offers a level of design

insight previously not available in this class of instrument,” said Jeff Yost, director, Basic Oscilloscopes, Tektronix. “The new instrument also sets a new standard for usability with features like a large display for easy signal visualisation and a comprehensive set of automatic waveform measurements that are coupled with graphical explanations to help users better understand their measurements.”

In education, such oscilloscopes give students hands-on experience in electronics engineering and educators need to efficiently mentor and monitor large groups of students. The TBS2000 meets these requirements and more: • Models are available with 70MHz or 100MHz bandwidth and with 2 or 4 channels

• With a 9-inch WVGA display, the TBS2000 can display 15 horizontal (time) divisions showing 50 percent more signal than similar scopes • A 20 Mpoint record length with single-knob pan and zoom provides the ability to capture long time duration signals and easily navigate to find important details www.tektronix.com
